Completely and utterly inappropriate for a betta
This 1/2 gallon bowl is completely unacceptable for a betta let alone any kind of fish. Bettas require at the very least 3 gallons of space, preferably 5 or more gallons. They also require a heater and a tank cover (bettas can and will jump). Watch how a betta fish behaves in such a tiny bowl and then see how one acts in a properly heated, filtered, and cleaned 3+ gallon tank. It's like night and day.

Too Small
Not as small as some but bettas need at least a gallon tank to live a healthy life. You can easily get a 5gal for the same price if not cheaper. Plus bettas jump. >.<

Great size for kids to watch, not too small for the fish
I've had bettas in the past. I decided it was time to get one for my son. I liked this one because it's not glass, it came with some gravel, the de-clorinating tablets, betta food, and a plant. Great for a first time buy. I wasn't crazy about the smaller glass-size-type betta homes. It's easy to change a size like this (about every 10-14 days), took me all of 5 minutes to rinse everything and replace. I did have the clean water in a seperate container so it could become room temp. I also used the de-clorintion tablet. WHAT an active fish!! He has room to swim. He is very responsive when the tank is approched. I'm very happy with the compact size yet it gives "Spot" (our fish) room to swim, which I think he likes I would recommend this for a first time fish experience for any child.
