Markal silver streak pen
I am a new student welder. The Markal silver streak worked well and is very durable. I need a refill now bc I used it up. They are soft enough for the metal I work on.

Best metal pen.
I have been using these in metal fabrication for 20 plus years. Awesome product!

Great for layout
This item is great for layout on metal, wood, concrete, I use it on fabric and acrylic as well. Works great for torch layout and for welding to. Do not use on hot metal as it will melt the tip. Try to limit stick out and it will minimize breakage. Love the sharpener in the cap. There are only 2 down sides. 1 it only holds one piece at a time and 2 it the lead will fall all the way out if you dont stop it with something. I use my thumb nail. Wish I worked like a mech pencil but I still love them

Great method of marking steel
I've bought several of these and have gotten a lot of use out of them. I am a welder/fabricator. Of all of the utensils I've tried on steel, this and the pencil version are by far my favorites. The lead creates a smooth and fine line for marking scaley and dirty metal, and is somewhat visible on ground metal as well. Here are the pros and cons. Pros: Clean smooth line Marks dirty metals Lots of lead Built-in sharpener under the silver cap for a finer point Doesn't require being sharpened Quick to operate Cons: The lead can slip back in If you press too hard That dang silver cap falls out and gets lost easily Kind of pricey Both this and the normal pencil version have a place with my tools. I find they reach work better in different situations. This for example works well when out in the field or when moving around a lot when you don't have time to re-sharpen. The pencil on the other hand is better for a workshop setting. I will note that the lead in this Is slightly softer. The only thing I would change about this product is make it so the little silver cap can't fall off easily. Perhaps it could screw on. That is the reason I took off a star. I've lost two but was able to find one of them. It would also be nice to have the option of buying colored leads for this.

Love this pencil
Nice clear markings on steel. Great for marking where to weld as you can see the lines with an arc welding hood.

Works, period.
Marks well on most dark surfaces. Does not wipe off easily like soap stone, but can be removed with a bit of water, spit or window cleaner. Even works on many plastics and rubbers as well as metals. Not great for shiny metals like aluminum or stainless steel, but is still a great marking utensil for construction and metal fabrication.

Moisture and the pencil is useless
The least bit of humidity. And forget it. Can't move or adjust. With taking apart. And beating the marker out.

I'm in love with this stupid thing!
Why did I wait so long to purchase this oh so useful tool! The softer silver lead leaves its mark on metal wet or dry. Thin design makes it easy to mark those tight areas. Just don't leave it close to your work. It's plastic it will melt. DUH Dedicated spot for it on my welding cart. Purchased extra refills I'm going to need those. Highly recommend.
