Will the anti fraud cartridge authentication prevent me from using cartridges that are not hp? or will this technology force me to buy only hp toner?

No you can use them I use remanufactured cartriges in all my HP printers just don't buy the real cheapo ones MSE makes the best you can find them online they are not the cheapest but are consistently good cartridges

Does it work with envelopes?

yes it does. we print a lot of envelopes and certifies and it work excellent

No it does not print in color and it only prints. No scanning or faxing.
