Natural Pure Suet Cake,10.0 ounce

Just getting into the suet world, and after a very successful Wegman's suet block, I bought this with the thought that I don't want to see a starling hanging around and I just want to target the little birds with pure protein. On my Wegman's block, it was a feeding frenzy, house wrens, chickadees, titmice, dark eyed juncos, cardinals, basically, the neighborhood was stopping by every morning. Then I switched to this cake and everyone but the occasional chickadee went elsewhere. Darn!Also, the cake arrived molded into an odd shape due to heat so one side is thin and the other thick. The thick side is easily reached but the thin side, not so much. While it would probably work itself out, because no birds eat it, I may never know.

I love to feed the woodpeckers. It took a while for the birds to get used to just suet. The really big advantage is that no starlings are interested! I can put this in a regular paddle and only the woodpeckers go for the suet. The package cover listed other birds that like this but so far, no other type of birds is eating it. This means that it lasts longer! I still have suet with peanuts in a cage inside another cage, and the starlings do try to get that but they get easily discouraged. They can't get through the smaller holes and they can't hang upside down too long. I also purchased a hoop (amazon) to suspend under the other woodpecker feeder. If the pieces drop on the ground my stray neighborhood cats try to catch the birds. It would be great if they would just eat some of those pesky starlings.

This Heath Natural Pure Suet, without seeds in it, is the best suet we have tried so far, other than the natural suet we can buy (if we're lucky) in the beef section at the grocery store. The birds love Heath suet - we even have wrens coming up to eat it, which never happened with seed-filled suet cakes. We are very happy with this suet and would recommend it to anyone who wants to attract a wide variety of birds, especially in the winter. An extra dividend to using this suet is that it can be used in warm weather without melting or spoiling. I have learned not to use suet that includes seeds, otherwise the squirrels and starlings will eat it all and you won't get to see the other birds who need the pure suet.UPDATE 12/3/08: Still using this suet and the birds are still eating it. The birds love it, and the squirrels leave it alone.

Excellent Suet that last a long time. One complaint ... I ordered this item twice. Each time I ordered two suet cakes. On average each cake lasts about two weeks. The second time I ordered I received two partial cakes. One was about 1/3 the size it should be and the other looks like it about 1/4 of the suet is missing. I will order one more time. If I receive less than a complete cake I will have to look to purchase somewhere else.

By far this is the best suet ever, better then buying and rendering from butcher. I put the cake out the day it came was gone by night fallI'm ordering the 12 pack.

The omission of nuts and other things other than suet helps to keep birds who are looking for the nuts and other things from eating the suet up quickly; therefore, it lasts much longer, a good thing for my pocketbook.

My woodpeckers prefer the plain suet, so that's what I get. I keep it in my garage frig until needed. All the birds are eating it so that is my best recommendation.
