Non-scary horror written by the book and with consistency
This is not an entertaining movie. It belongs to the horror genre but it will not scare you at all.Niamh Algar is a very competent actress who handles with subtlety the nuances of the role. The rest of the cast is very good too.Although the script doesn't feel repetitive, it is not innovative either. I admire how well the photography and ligthing provide a great deal of emotion to the story, just as it should be with any horror movie. The music also matches the emotions and the feeling of despair and numbness that come with the depressing environment of a good supernatural horror film, even though this is not one of those ghost movies.I am really glad to see that there are still directors doing great films within the horror genre without having to remake an 80's movie over and over again.

"Enter your story"
Since its synopsis can be easily found, here are a few observations about this distinctive movie.Amnesia is presented as a form of involuntary self-censorship and self-protection that can be induced by traumatic events. Trying to recover a memory lost to amnesia is depicted as a form of voluntary self-expression and self-corruption that can generate traumatic events, which one wishes could be instantly forgotten.I encourage viewers to give special attention to some changes---subtle and abrupt---in the movie's aspect ratio. They support the movie's structure and the protagonist's various states of mind and can provide the viewer with an unusual point of reference and emotional effect as the movie shifts between reality, dreams, memories, illusions (visual and auditory), delusions, and especially movie fictions. In a different way, TV screens in some scenes function as framing portals in which the camera enters its static image to transition to new scenes within the movie. It should be noted that this movie has comic elements, meta-movie moments, and ironies. It also presents a wide set of ideas, themes, and expressions, including hypocrisy, paradox, mystery, protection, neglect, dominance, rescue, independence, conformity, and culpability, within an odd symmetry and interior logic.I would not characterize the movie as a slow burn as some reviewers have. I think it moves at a fairly fast pace and communicates a lot of important information very concisely right from the moment it starts to the finale. I disagree with reviewers who think the movie starts strong and fails apart. In my opinion, while the setting, mood, and action certainly shift (from a dark bureaucratic horror movie censors' environment to a horror movie set to a wildly fantastical rainbow-haloed suburban setting), these elements, in one form or another, are visually communicated prominently from start to the finish, even the hallucinatory atmosphere of the end stretch is echoed in the multi-colored effect of the projected movie light as shown behind the protagonist in a screening room and an image that is nearly identical to the final mise-en-scène is featured on the cover of a movie videotape case that the censor picks up and lets her eyes lingers on in a dark video store (It is titled "The Day the World Began").

It was ok but it didn't break any new ground
the film did a good job of capturing the era it was supposed to be set in as well as the somewhat seedy elements that is associated with the slasher genre. Michael Smiley is in this and I enjoy him as an actor/comedian because he can play a creeper really well and he nailed the role of a horror producer in the 80s. Niamh Algar did had a great performance, this is my first time seeing her in a film and she did a great job but even though you have good actors I just felt the story limited what these two could have done to make it better.I just felt there was something missing from the film to make it the psychological horror thriller it wanted it to be. The only part I was even remotely scared was for a cheap jump scare and it really soured the rest of the film for me. The ending cinematography was the best part, I'm not going to spoil what happens but they nailed it by capturing the mood it wanted and I really enjoyed that. A modest recommendation for this if you want to check it out. It didn't break any new grounds but I think if you're into this sort of stuff than give it a watch.

Trust me it doesn't improve
Without a doubt one of the worst movies I've ever sat through. How this has 4 stars is a cosmic mystery

Powerful, Odd, and Original
At first, I found myself at odds with the overall direction of the movie. It attempted to merge a couple of story lines that seemed a bit forced and unnatural to the organic flow of a classically well told story, but, as the film progresses things do unravel rather nicely. I feel that many people may not totally understand or respect this approach to filmmaking, but, it is rather intelligent, artistic and impactful in it's delivery. This movie definitely requires one's undivided attention in order for the viewer to full appreciate the depth of this devastaing ending. In my personal opinion, this movie is a well constructed, psychological thriller that delivers an original and fresh approach to an otherwise floundering genre. Today's horror genre is a mass-produced nightmare filled with globalized conventions and content that is constantly re-written, re-purposed, and put on repeat for anyone with a production company to copy, paste, and then profit from.. This is where this movie shines. Although one could look at this another addition into the slasher flick franchise, this woman's decent into madness has a multi-dimensional viewpoint that forces the viewer to eimpathize with her situation. It is hard to convey the psychological process of a mind that is fracturing while still telling a cohesive tail that involves multiple plot points, but somehow, this movie succeeds. I would have given this movie 4 1/2 stars if that were an option. Although the end of this movie is mostly self-explanatory, I found that once the film had ended that I still had some unresolved questions that were stuck in my mind. This is the only reason that I did not give a 5 star review.
