Easy Installation, Modern and Stylish, Very Quiet
I'll state up front that this is a review based mostly upon the installation and initial testing, and not years of use. We bought this smaller fan for our nursery to replace a simple two-bulb light fixture. The nursery is fairly small, and after doing some research, we determined this fan was just the right size (with a few inches to spare). Installation was relatively easy, except for one gripe: one of the very first steps is referring to the electrical support box in your ceiling, and has a single simple image with a one or two sentence bit of instruction. It was very vague as to what was being referenced to use in the electrical box, and it took me a good 10 or 15 minutes of screwing around to figure out that I was trying to use the wrong screws from the electrical box (I mistook the proper screws for being ones that might have been holding the box in place in the ceiling; they were not). Now, before you really deride me for being a dummy, know that the instructions for this fan do a poor job of representing to-scale images of the different screws, bolts, and connectors you'll use. A simple indication of size would have helped clear up a lot of confusion. That said, except for the electrical box issue, most of the confusion can be cleared up by process of elimination, and for most of the parts that come with the fan, the instructions reference the baggies the parts come in by the "rune" (random shapes; who KNOWS who came up with them) on the baggie. Beyond the very first confusingly vague step, the rest of the instructions are like adult Legos: the images are big, simple, and clearly diagramed, and broken down into easy to understand steps. It's also nice that each section of the fan you assemble is concluded clearly with a "You're all done!" declaration (avoiding any possible confusion on whether the next step is somehow a secondary part for the previous component). After installation, the fan performs wonderfully. We have a full-size Hunter fan in our bedroom that's actually louder than this one, but only two years older. When turning on this fan, you can't even hear the motor. In our older, larger fan, if you go from off to high speed, you can hear the motor accelerating. You can also hear a rhythmic whirring from the motor as it maintains speed. That's not the case for this Newsome model: it's completely silent, which is excellent for a nursery. Airflow seems fairly good too, though I have to wonder if flush-mounting a fan reduces how much it can move the air around. Fan is also very steady, with zero visible wobble. There's a balancing kit included in the box, but it wasn't needed. One last, minor pro: the fan comes with an extra little bracket that goes inside the little dome cap at the base of the glass bowl. Our other Hunter fan doesn't have this, so when you're changing a light, you have to carefully remove the two pieces below the bowl, while holding the big heavy bowl up. Finally, for those who might be doing this: I installed a third-party (Westinghouse) remote system into this fan. It works beautifully. The receiver for the wall remote fits snuggly and near-perfectly up inside the mounting bracket (not visible when completed; the big drum above the fan blades is entirely decorative and installs over the bracket and motor to hide this from sight).

Nothing I can say here, it's a HUNTER fan.
I have several Hunter fans in our home. I had the house built for me so, originally, I had the electrician install Hunters in all of the rooms EXCEPT ONE. In that single small room I had a small off-brand cheap-o fan installed - Major mistake in my planning. That little squeak pot made more NOISE than all the other Hunter fans in the house combined. OK, so I plunked down some $ for this 'Hunter Newsome' fan and installed it (very easy installation) myself. Oh my, what a major improvement in the noise level. QUIET is the word for the Newsome fan. Pushes tons of air even on medium and low speed, plenty for a small room. I give it five stars, I like the fan. Be sure to read the instructions thoroughly as there are some little tweaking points that are important. I am adding another comment here on 3/2/2021. I bought a SECOND one of these Hunter 51080 fans to replace an old fan which had four ‘down lights’ (old style ceiling fan). The four down lights were awful as they shone straight into your eyes. To resolve the snow blinding effect I bought a second 51080, problem solved! The Hunter has a pleasing globe light and is totally silent just like my first 51080. This fan runs QUIETLY, really QUIET. Get some help installing these fans or you will be chasing up-and-down a ladder constantly to retrieve dropped screws, next part(s), and tools practicing their skydiving. The tools will have a great time but you won’t.

Great fan.
This is a great fan and very attractive too. Fan is quiet and effective. Light fixture is good. My husband installed and didn't seem to have any trouble. We bought this one and the same thing in a different size for an adjacent room.

Nice, but with flaws
This is a great looking, quiet fan. Installation presented a challenge in that the motor housing was slightly warped and would not fit over the ceiling mount. The housing is supposed to "pop" on, but I was unable to do so without using pliers and a hammer to reshape the opening. The globe of the light kit will not sit level due to a "globe saver" clip that unfortunately tips the globe to the side. Maybe you could leave it off and just be mindful to support the globe when replacing bulbs, but once the clip is on, it's a pain to take off. Took me 4 hours to remove an old fan and install this new one, but 2 hours of that was reshaping the motor housing. Not difficult to install if you've installed light fixtures before. Edit (Aug 2019): adding a star back because I figured out why the globe would not sit level. You have to feed the fan chain through a white plastic hole on the light kit. I think the instructions glossed over that, but it's been so long I can't remember. Globe is now level (and the fan pull works a lot more easily too).

you need a professional to install this unless you are an electrcian/carpenter.
i live in an older mobile home. the materials used in construction for this building are fragile. supports to hold the lamp/fan in place must be installed before the fan can be put in place. the professional had no issues in installing it. it is handsome, quiet and effective. the lighting is great, works as a task light; can not be used with a reostat switch. the fan is effective and so far is quiet and in balance. there is a balancing device included with the packaging. worht the price and the cost of doing it right.

Let me start by saying I'm not an electrician. I never worked with wiring appliances before, and this was the first time I've ever even changed a light bulb in a ceiling light let alone accessed my breaker box. What I'm trying to say is that I'm basic as all hell when it comes to installing something like this. That out of the way, here's why this was one of the best purchases I've made yet on this site! The fan arrived neatly packaged with literally everything you need to install it EXCEPT for a Phillips screwdriver (you just need one- the fan uses the same type of screw for every part of the setup). Taking off the old fan was the worst part of the process, and as soon as I got to assembling the new one it was soooooo much easier than I thought it would be!! The instructions give clear images and explanations for newbies, bags are all labelled so you know exactly what to open for parts when, and it even includes wire caps/light bulbs/washers/alternative mounting hardware/etc. should you need it. You have plenty of room to work with when your connecting wires and the only issue I ran into was not being able to access my attic to secure the additional and extra support wire around a ceiling beam (this is not needed). Honestly if you're willing I bet you could task your teenager with installing this- it's that easy to do. The fan itself is beautifully balanced once installed and looks fantastic! The light is comfortably bright and the hardware mounts flush with your ceiling (don't worry, you'll have the parts you need if you want it on a support rod too!). I am absolutely going to be buying another hunter fan for my guest room once I get the initiative to get out and up on my ladder again. AMAZING PRODUCT!!!

Installation of this unit was very easy once the proper ceiling supports were in place. For me, that meant climbing through an attic to put in the proper blocking above the existing boxes. It is great that you are able to do this approach and are not limited to replacing the existing electrical boxes. Once that was prepared, the installation takes less than 30 minutes! They are VERY quiet, and can easily cool a small-medium sized room. The light is also quite bright with the two bulbs in this unit putting out more light than the 3 bulb light that this fan replaced. After 1 week of use, I am extremely happy with this purchase as we just finished 5 days of temperatures over 35C.
