Fantastic for my specific use case
I am using this scanner for something it was probably not targeted for, scanning graded comics and trading cards encapsulated in plastic holders. The CCD optics is the same technology as older flatbed scanners that provide a clear scan despite the reflective cases. Modern flatbed scanners provide blurry images. This is expensive but perfect for my needs to catalog my collection and list for resale. Easy to use and works with latest version of MacOS. I went with this over the no name Chinese versions being sold on Amazon. Quality build and believe it will last a long time.

Has some quirks
Pros Easy to use and the scans look great Cons. It uses a black mat for the background. This causes it to have trouble scanning items that have lots of black in them . I have to keep rotating items with lots of black in them to see if it will scan it properly. It also doesn’t scan photos that are matted or antique cabinet cards that are glued onto cardboard with a wide border showing. It will scan the photo but not the matted or cardboard area it is attached to. If there is a solution to this I haven’t been able to figure it out.

Deeply Frustrating Software
I agree 100% with William Roberts, the software for this product is trash. If you're only going to scan a few pages then it won't be too much of a problem, whoever if you want to scan and edit an entire book of 300 pages then you're in for a miserable time. I originally bought this because I thought it would be fast and easy to copy my books but holys***. I only managed to do a book of about 300 pages and that was only because I did about 100 pages at a time. I wasn't able to do 300 pages all at once, while possible it is frustrating. You'd probably have to pay me to do another book. It is a daunting task. If all you had to do was scan the book then it wouldn't be bad at all, but then you have to edit because the software is very bad. Out of 300 pages only about 5 pages looked good. All the remaining pages had to be edited. And everything William said is accurate, you can't save your work and turn off your computer. I learned this the hard way. If you're in the middle of editing a 300 page book you better make sure your computer doesn't decide to turn off and update and it better not run out of battery and turn off, otherwise all your work is gone and you'll need to scan the entire book again and edit it. So those 6 hours you just spent scanning and editing are gone. You now to spend an entire day doing the work again. For someone that works 8-10 hours a day and then gets home to try and digitize a book a process that takes so much time and is very boring that ultimately ends in futility is deeply agonizing, makes you start to question why we're living. I later found out that there are additional softwares that can be added, one of them has a save option which allows you to edit the pages you scan: BUT WAIT! While there is the image of adjusting the page just like in the original software it is a lie. You cannot adjust the page, you can only take away things like fingers and other imperfections, but if the page is not like you want then you won't be able to fix it. So you spent 3 or so hours scanning a book because you thought you could save and work on it later, but all was for naught, LMAO. The creator of the software is no sociopath he is the devil himself. I'll be giving this 1 star until the makers of this expensive machine actually make a competent software.

I love this thing
I am in the process of digitizing everything that I can. I have a scan snap document scanner and it works great but obviously it would not work for books or other bulky items and was not great for photos. Since I really liked the way Scan Snap works I purchased the Scan Snap SV600. I love it. It was just as easy to set up as the document scanner and is just as easy to operate. After watching a You Tube video I did purchase a clear acrylic sheet from the hardware store to hold the books down (no more fingertips in the scan) The scans are clear, the software works great and I am very happy with the purchase.

GREAT IDEA, POOR IMPLEMENTATION
I love the concept. It scans nearly everything sheet-fed scanners can't. It is not nearly as big as it looks, about the size of a banker's desk lamp, taking up very little desk real estate. It is possible to connect multiple ScanSnaps--sheet fed and document scanners--and switch from one to the other easily; the software automatically determines which device is being used and uses the corresponding driver: The implementation, however, has been very disappointing. o Colors and gray tones look reasonable in the initial scans, but for some reason wash out during the "enhancement" step. The colors lose vibrance and accuracy. The grays become abysmal, with lighter grays even disappearing--making pie charts and bar charts, for example, impossible to read. There is no setting change that solves the problem; the app does the "enhancement" whether or not it is wanted. o The process is very manual and slow. There are 2 things the software must do: 1) identify the borders and centerline of the pages, and 2) remove fingerprints. The software does not correctly perform either function, so a lot of manual editing is required. The software uses 6-pointed areas to define pages and fingerprints; thus, manual editing involves moving one--and frequently several edit points--for each fingerprint and page that is not properly auto-recognized. For long documents, this can mean dragging hundreds of edit points to their proper positions. This is tedious, time-consuming, and mind-numbing work. With proper software, accurate colors and gray tones should easily be possible, and document processing could be speeded up several fold, making the device a productive and pleasurable tool to use.

Great Scanner, but cannot change password
great scanner, but lacks click to change password to update software. I cant remember my password to get updates. Need to install this option, otherwise, I'd give it a 5 star.

Generally I am pleased with the product. It allows me to scan documents larger than 8 1/2 by 11 inches in one image. Like any new to me product, it took some time to get used to the order in which I have to choose options options for scanning and choosing the best options to ensure the best scanning process/image. The black background sheet does eliminate most "bleed through". However, to get the best copies, it is important that the pages being scanned are as flat as possible. When scanning books, I have found that by placing supports under the side of the book with fewest pages generally makes the document (pages) to be scanned to be "level" and better results are obtained. I do find it frustrating that jpeg cannot scan in BW, but an inconvenience not a complete barrier. The speed of scanning, getting the image I need is great. I am also generally pleased that it will scan documents placed under glass, plastic sleeve protections, etc. As I am often dealing with over-sized as well as "historical" documents, not always of today's standard sizes and often fragile, the versatility this product is great. Like any technology it is not suitable for all scanning needs (eg. negatives and positives). I am impressed with the product and its results, and would recommend it to those involved in the above mentioned needs. Edward

A bit expensive. But works good and saves time. Thanks.

I have been using this to scan older magazines to start with. It has worked excellent. The software straightens out curved pages (when it doesn’t lay perfectly flat) and the OCR works effectively. It will automatically scan after I remove my hands after flipping the page. One drawback that others noted is that if you mess up a page within multiple pages you cannot edit one page. You would have to rescan the whole group. Not a deal breaker just a consideration. Once you get the hang of it, it goes smoothly. It picks up the edges of the pages well and only a few times I had to individually edit the edge locations of pages. I used the included black base mat when scanning and I feel that helps in accuracy. The included software was outdated for my Mac. It auto updated the software right away so no problem. It is a heavy solid feel and is easy to use. It is faster than a flat bed for when you have lots of scanning.
