A work of art
I have most of Chiltern Classic hardcover books, including A Tale of Two Cities, and am now a proud owner of a beautiful library. The covers, front and back, are beautiful and the workmanship is exceptional.

High Quality Hardcover
I read this classic so long ago that rereading this time was like for the first time again. I just started the reread and know how this, one of the greatest novels, will again give so much reading pleasure, so I will not be critiquing the novel, instead: What I would like to comment on is the wonderful high quality of the physical book itself published by Chiltern. The small book is literally physically heavy (over 1-1/2#!) …you feel it when you pick it up no doubt because every page is “glossy” and the top, bottom and sides of the pages are golden, precise and clean. The book has a dark blue ribbon to keep one’s place (like a bible). The quality of the print is outstandingly sharp and clear. It’s like the book itself is a work of art. I love it and every time I pick it up for the enchanting story I’m transported to reader’s heaven.

Ornate and cool, but fragile and cheap
I’m reviewing the physical book, not the content. The physical book looks cool and is artistically appealing. But it doesn’t feel like it’s sturdily built and will probably not stay together very long. The pages have like a wax coating on them, which makes it almost impossible to write anything on them. If you’re an “active reader,” this book is it for you. And the book is a lot smaller than I thought would be. There are hardly any margins that are of any use.

I have been buying these classical editions for sometime now. They are absolutely stunning. They will look beautiful on any shelf and with the pages being edged in gold and silver they are unique to any other classical editions I own.
