Not really. It is designed to sit on the ground. Legs have sharp points to hold it firmly in the ground. Actuation is by stepping on the pedal. It is an exceptional thrower. Mine has tossed a lot of birds. You can throw for yourself.

I don't think it would matter what kind you use I typically buy the ones from Walmart great product you're going to enjoy it
