Making Toys That Teach: With Step-by-Step Instructions and Plans Review: Great book! - I just received this today from desertcart. I looked through it and can't wait to begin cutting wood. This book is so well organized and simple to understand! Les Neufeld did a great job. I can't say enough good things about it. There's diagrams with dimensions of each piece as well as a cutting list. There's steps with very simple-to-understand directions. There's cutting lists and much more. I applaud you Les! These are simple learning toys that will be treasured for years after they're made for a special child or grandchild. I'll be in my shop tomorrow!! Review: Great Book! - This is just the book I was hoping to find. The projects are fun to make and fun to play with. I was especially hoping to find plans for some unit building blocks for my grandkids for Christmas, and I just finished making the set from this book. I couldn't keep my wife away from them; she kept playing with them before they were finished! The plans are very detailed and easy to understand. The equipment needed is usually pretty basic, and there's a list of all the tools needed for each project. I'm anxious to get to work on some more of the toys. I don't hesitate to fully recommend this book.

Real educational toys
I like this book and its projects. This book has toys that will stimulate the thinking processes and be enjoyed for years. These may take some time to make for a beginner woodworker, but a breeze for an experienced one. But, I'm going to enjoy the fact that all my grandchildren will be stimulated to be creative and thinking critically.

poor print quality
This looks like a nice book, but is not of good print quality. About ten pages didn't go through the printing process correctly and are not evenly cut (hang out over the edges) and have deep wrinkles that when unfolded, shows the ink didn't lay correctly. This was not advertised as a second-quality run.

Great Book
I purchased this book as a gift for my husband. We are expecting our first child soon and the toys in the book are wonderful! Most of the projects are simple and easy to understand and include wonderful color pictures. Also, unlike some books we have purchased the tools needed are pretty standard. The projects don't seem to take up large amounts of time or materials. Would highly recommend!

A Fantastic Resource!
So far, "grandpa" has made two toys from this book, with more to come. The square stacking rings are fantastic, as is the shape sorting box with the hinged lid. We are absolutely thrilled with the book and the toys it makes. Our goal as a family is to provide as many "real" toys as possible, and to minimize the use of the electronic pseudo-educational garbage that is often available.

Our Great Grandson is in for a treat!!!
As soon as I got this book, I started building several of these toys in my wood shop. The toys are easy to make, and will be a fun way for him to pass some time developing his mechanical skills. The instructions are well written, and give ideas for alternate ways to make each project.

An excellent resource for the more traditional woodworker. There is a range of plans of various difficulty levels which I found ideal for my after school craft club. Highly recommended to woodwork teachers.

A nice book with some beautiful ideas. There are some ideas with no plans, which is always frustrating in a book supposed to encourage you to make things, and it is more suited to those with certain woodworking tools, but I’ll enjoy making some of the toys for my grandson.
