Do we need 2 keypads one for inside the gate and one for outside the gate. We have UPS deliveries and we want the driver to have access both ways

one inside and one outside is enough. I use the the hand held clicker on the visor of each car since I am too lazy to use the post. But other visitors need to use the posts. I also use a hand held device to open the gate from inside the house to let in and out package delivery agents. my gate is 250 feet from the gate. the hand held device works fine for that distance though a window facing the gate.

Can the fm137 - digital keypad be used with liftmaster gate openers? the lm gate opener is simply plastic junk.

Yes. I currently have a Mighty Mule FM137 Keypad linked wirelessly through a GTO Receiver to a Liftmaster Pro LA400 gate operator. It has functioned flawlessly now for almost 3 years.

does this need a receiver to operate?

You do need the gate opener control box which i guess would be the reciever. This is basically another clicker like the one you keep in your car for the gate or garage door opener, instead of pushing a button you put in a code. It is wireless and uses batteries. I have only had to change the batteries once a year. My son uses it every day coming from bus stop. Hope this helps
