I sit at the back of the auditorium and needed a microphone to better record my teacher’s lectures. This works very well. The size is also fairly discreet. I have an iPhone 6 and iPad 6th gen. The microphone recorded audio is better with my iPhone but it does improve the audio on my tablet. *Tips: -The microphone is very sensitive to nearby noises, ex: if you squirm or open your bag, make sure you aren’t moving around during the important parts of the recordings. -Use a rubber tip on the end of your Apple Pencil or smart writing device if you are recording & writing w/ your tablet -I also use Notability to record and take notes with during lecture, it gives me the option to adjust the audio quality.

I love the small size and that it is articulated.

OK, 1st off…..you are not going to hear a major difference between this and the inbuilt iPhone mic. There is a difference, but you would really need to care about minor audio properties for this to make sense as a purchase to you. This is really a studio use mic, not outdoor, and you could get a much better mic and audio interface for an iPhone for around the same price as this. It’s a massive irritation that there is no way to monitor the audio while recording, so multi tracking is out. For this to work for you, you need a completely silent room as it’s built to pick up sound in a near spherical way. The purpose for this kind of mic is sticking it in the middle of a room and maybe having a choir or board meeting round it. You could put a million dead cats on it, unless you want all the sound from outside recorded this is not suitable to use. The iPhone internal microphone will do a very similar thing in that use case, it’s just the audio will be a little worse….99% of people won’t care about such a minor difference in quality, or even hear it. Pros: It does what you expect from an omnidirectional microphone, and it does it adequately, not spectacularly It’s small and easy to plug and play Audacity will remove most offending background noise, just hit record and wait 5 seconds before making a sound to create your noise profile in noise reduction Cons: Definitely not suitable for most people, wrong kind of mic. That’s why there are a load of 1 star reviews. £40 is £20 too much, but if you look at some brand name competitors a 50% overvaluation is a real steal in comparison. For goodness sake, you need a headphone jack in something like this. You have to make it work, most people won’t know how to do that. Overall I’d say it’s worth taking out of the packaging before throwing it in the bin. Some people will immediately rate it as junk, and to them it is. It’s a mic with a very specific use case and that’s not really clear in the listing. 4 stars is a little strong, but I don’t believe in leaving poor reviews for things that I expected major drawbacks to. There are much better solutions for outdoor voice work, and those solutions are far more versatile…..but they won’t do the one thing this can do as they have a mic built to isolate audio from a specific direction. If you are hoping to produce videos for YouTube, it’s not for you….you will use it once and buy something else after posting that one vid saying you love it and will use it for everything.
