This is the candy thermometer I have used forever and it always delights. This version is made by Le Cruset instead of the other brands but the features make this exact replica of the Taylor functional and practical to use. Digitals for use in candy making where hot sugar can pop all over everything mean that cleaning is harder so this old fashioned design is the easiest and most accurate way to make sugar candy. The clip holds on to the side of the pot and allows you to carefully watch as the candy goes through all the stages vs having to measure and re measure. EASY to use, EASY to clean, STURDY and EASY to store make this design the most practical. It is always the little things that help make time in the kitchen productive and pleasurable....and this is one of those little things. If you are making candy without a thermometer, spend the money on this and eliminate the guess work and the constant watching and testing.

The reaction time is a little slow, and it's not quite as accurate as a nice digital thermometer. But it is a lot cheaper than a nice digital thermometer and is more durable than a cheap digital thermometer. I am a little obsessive about getting the exact temperature when I deep fry(I almost have an anxiety attack when friends and family deep fry with no thermometer!) so this thermometer with it's slowish reaction time does not fit my way of cooking. Being so obsessive I should have realized it wouldn't work for me before I bought it, but I guess I was kind of hoping I would kind of adjust to the slower analog style of thermometer and in turn become a little less obsessive. But it did not work.This thermometer will work for 99% of people who buy it, but if the above description sounds like you at all then do yourself a favor and do a little research on thermometers and figure out which one would work best for you. ThermoWorks is a great brand that has many choices.

It worked great but the problem was 6 months after we bought it falls over and the glass face breaks and it stops working.For $20, I wish it was more durable.

It is accuate; I put two thermometers in my oven, and I checked this one against the other; they were within 5 degrees of each one (and the oven said the temp was that amount--in this case 450 degrees--I was making bread). It is easy to read, and you can hang it or set it on your rack. It would be nice if the bottom piece that lets it set on racks was slightly wider or longer; you don't have much room for error when you set it on the rack. Still, I am very happy with this little, simple mechanism.

Got it yesterday and checked it out this morning. Temp is correct according to the boiling water test. I do wish that the clip would slide down so this could be used with shallow pots.

This is a replacement for a unit that came with the Big Green Egg smoker, since the dial started filling up with water. This unit only goes up to 500 deg, but it's perfect for smoking application where I cook mostly around 250. It's well made and checked for calibration with boiling water and it's right on out of the packaging. It's also dishwasher safe. Large glass dial, easy to read, comes with clip for securing to a pan or a grill.

Broken when received, the red needle is tilted and drags against the increments surface. If tapped the needle will jump to 200 but no further even with the stove on the highest setting. Even tapping will not work once it gets to 200.Only writing this review because after this happened I examined the product closer and only my opinion but it appears to be a poor design.

Looks nice, I like the fact that the hook swivels, especially bc the hook only fit the support grating not the frame.. The thermometers were inaccurate. I tested them along side my current oven thermometer in my digital toaster oven and these were about 50degrees off. Not a big deal if you're cooking food at high temperatures, but when it comes to baking, the wrong temp can completely mess up your desired out come. I ended up returning these and buying the same brand thermometer I currently own(link posted below).
