CCNA Security Course Booklet Version 2 (Course Booklets) 1st Edition

Wonderful book

Update 09-24-16. Originally, I gave it 2 1/2 starts. After a month of solid use, 2 1/2 was a star-and-a-half too generous. The book is almost worse than useless because if you're using - and tested - on CCNA Security version 2.0, focusing on the book will hurt you. I'm going to post a final verdict in December but, for now, I have to go with:**if you are taking CCNA version 2.0, do NOT buy this book.My position: I am currently taking the CCNA 2.0 Academy class; the booklet is 1.2. From my job, I have a working knowledge of TACACS+ and ACS.Two major things to know before ordering:1) The booklet is text only and is supposed to be the word-for-word text from the Academy portion. The booklet is peppered with instructions to "Refer to online course." Get used to seeing it. Often. To get you started, I uploaded an image from Chapter 3.Every figure, every image means you jump to the online version.2) The course was revamped for version 2 and the booklet does not map 1:1. I'm three chapters in and the first two have a wide level of variance between the booklet and online portions, mostly because information has been re-arranged and updated. I would be OK if I had the figures and images but because the booklet refers to figures and images that may or may not exist, the experience is frustrating. The third chapter - on AAA - is better matched. I'll update again in a few months.Pro:I gave the book two stars 1/2 instead of 1 because it has a great 100 page glossary. In fact, I'll probably keep the book just for the glossary.It does have merit for people - like me - who learn better from reading text. I can make notes and refer back but - and it's an important *but* - because the booklet is mapped to an older academy course, it's of less value.Con:Only text; really rather useless without the online Academy portion.Text does not map well - so far - to version 2.0. I will update again in a few months.The booklet cannot be used as a first level study source for either the academy classes or the CCNA Security Cert.

Good option so you can take the material with you and read it when online may not be what you want to do. No index or glossary, and there are interactive exercise that the reader will have to explore online.

This is all just text and does not include any of the images, which made it a waste since I could not really read the material without all of the images and get the full feeling understanding of the text. Next time I will wait until the curriculum has been out longer.

Great Product!

Practically worthless. Nearly every paragraph has an icon next to it, stating, "Refer to Online Course for Illustration." Earned both CCENT and CCNA R&S after doing CCNA Explorations at a local community college. After Explorations, I wanted to earn CCNA Security. I contacted them for months attempting to gain access to NetAcad Security module. Got shuffled around between different departments. Was attempting to pay for the online Security course, similar to NetAcad for CCNA Explorations. Nope. They would not sell me access to the NetAcad Security module. Had to access it through a community college or other learning institution, they said. Finally bought this book and what does it do? Refers the reader to........the NetAcad online Security Course! Going in circles with Cisco. Don't waste your money.

As already said, the book is pretty useles when you don't have access to all the pictures which are on NetAcad course.

I bought this book because i didnt want to connect to the internet to read for my ccna security class. But the book doesnt contain any images for the examples in the book. So I dont recommend this book for a substitute for the online cursus.
