More like a statue than a toy.
I am a man obsessed. So I have like 5 different velociraptor figurines similar to this one. This one is quite nice and very well detailed. It's just a figure, not posable but very sharp looking

Nearly perfect representation of the JP raptor
Great sculpt, identical to what the Jurassic park dinosaurs are like (from the movie). My girlfriend surprised me with the stegosaurus from the Papo collection, and I was shocked at the quality and felt as if I were reliving that excitement over dinosaurs that I had as a child all over again. This is the best you can get when trying to get a realistic looking raptor, it may not be perfect considering the slight flaw in the paint around the neck but it's the best paint job I've seen on anything like this. I am slowly adding to my Papo dinosaur collection and cannot wait to see what they come up with next -Brachiosaurus, please- As a side note, I am 24 years old and totally embrace whatever it was that enabled me to find excitement over these things, I decorate my bookshelf with them and am nearly obsessed with the Papo line. Up until now, I always thought Carnegie was the best they would get; I was wrong. These are simply amazing, I realize this after nearly 15 years of zero interest in such things. I currently own the Raptor and Stego, my next one to get will be the T-rex; I got over his awkward stance thing.

Papo is the ultimate brand of quality dinosaurs
After having bought the adult T Rex for my 3 year old grandson's birthday at Toys R Us, and being amazed at the quality of the dino...and noticing that he absolutely LOVED the Papo dinosaur even more than his bucket of other dinosaurs (including the Animal Planet bucket and random other dinosaur sets), I decided that Papo was the way to go. I bought the baby T Rex and this Raptor for him for Christmas. With the working jaw and the quality heavy, durable plastic? rubber? materials, as well as the fantastic paint job...these dinos are top quality and worth the money. If there is a dino lover in your house, and you want them to have the best dinos out there...this is the brand to go with. I've even seen YouTube videos that showcase the awesome paintjobs and lifelike details of these dinos. They are THAT awesome.

Awesome product!!
The level of detail is like no other! The designers did a fantastic job with this item! It was a bit smaller than I expected it to be, but that does not take away the joy of playing this this very lifelike reproduction. My 4-year-old son does not let this thing out of his sight! An instant favorite! Tail, legs, arms and neck do not move, but the mouth does open and close to reveal VERY lifelike teeth and mouth! When the mouth closes, it completely hides the teeth and this raptor almost looks FRIENDLY! But his carnivorous disposition emerges when his mouth opens to reveal his dagger-toothed smile. Truly, a real work of art!

Papo's Jurassic Park-inspired highly-detailed toy models in dynamic poses with moveable jaw
Papo's Jurassic Park-inspired highly-detailed toy models in dynamic poses, with this one having a moveable jointed jaw. Much like Papo's other figures, these are highly detailed and painted fairly elaborately. They have a lot of details both on the mold and paint job. The only downside is that they are all not to scale with each other, but that would be a large feat to accomplish. Also, unlike figures from PNSO or Haolonggood, these are not scientifically accurate, but for an artistic rendition of a mashup between a museum collectable and a Jurassic Park toy, they're pretty awesome. I wouldn't recommend these toys for children below 5 years old who throw, destroy, or put things in their mouth. While these are toys, with enough force they can be damaged or destroyed, hence leading to small bits breaking off, and parts are pointy such as the tail, but there is some give. This would be I presume their second paint job on their Velociraptor, done nicely with a matte-satin finish.

Bad paint job detracts from otherwise detailed little raptor figure
First the good: The conformation and skin of this little raptor are exquisitely detailed. Anatomically, it is a nearly perfect Deinonychus. "A Deinonychus?" you say. "I thought it was supposed to be a Velociraptor!" Well, the problem began when Steven Spielberg didn't like the tiny size of a real Velociraptor for his movie, Jurassic Park. Right around the time the movie was made, a fossil raptor in Utah was unearthed. It was the right size for the movie (bigger than both a Deinonychus and a Velociraptor), so Spielberg went with it: the Utahraptor. The skeleton was incomplete, so Spielberg ignored the dish-shaped snout of the Velociraptor for the more vaulted snout of a Deinonychus and the onscreen "Velociraptor" was born. All three animals --Velociraptor, Deinonychus and Utahraptor-- belong to a group of dinos called "dromaeosaurs". The Bad: This Deinonychus is missing its feathers. Yes, all dinosaurs from the coelurosaur group (and maybe even more) had feathers. This includes the raptors and even T. rex, although it's doubtful T. rex had many feathers as an adult. Also, the hands of this Deinonychus should be parallel to the forearms like a bird's hand is in line with its wing. Deinonychus couldn't hold its hands in the position shown. The Ugly: The paint job on this little raptor is atrocious. The green skin is fine. The teeth and eyes are well-down, but there's this ugly whitish line down the neck, side and tail. Not only that, but there are asymmetrical geometric shapes in white on the sides. On one side are four circles. On the other side are two triangles and one circle. This isn't just a difference in color. It's an abortion of a paint job. There were pictures of that horrible paint-job on this site. What happened to them? There were also pictures of the toy re-painted by a person who bought them. What happened to those pictures? I'd like to know what kind of paint he used so I can fix my own figurine. I got the raptor as a model for my artwork. I knew ahead of time--thanks to the now missing pictures--that I might get a figurine with a bad paint job. Regardless of whether or not I fix the raptor, I will keep it. It's nice having a model with the mostly-correct bone structure of a deinonychus. (It is in no way a velociraptor, but any dromaeosaur is pretty cool in my book.) I can turn it to see the anatomy from all angles, which is nice. Of course I have to add feathers and correct some of the anatomy, but it is amazingly accurate (except for the hand orientation, lack of feathers and the fact it isn't a velociraptor). I knew I might get the bad Papo paint job, but I was still disappointed when I saw it was so. Papo, please fix this.
