Q: can adhesive be used to glue to a boat surface?

3M DP8010 will bond HDPE with structural strength (1000psi shear) to most substrates. Obtain and read tech data. Correct surface preparation is more important than usual for bonding to low surface energy plastics. However dispensed, once this 2 part adhesive is mixed, the pot life is just 10 minutes. Everything has to be ready to spread the adhesive for the correct bond line thickness and join the parts, there isn’t time to fiddle around to resolve surface conformation problems. Use something else that washes off easily to work all that out beforehand. Liquid dish soap will do as a stand-in for the adhesive if nothing else seems better. Spread it on one surface and see if it’s transferred to the other surface without leaving voids. HDPE expands with temperature 5 times faster than fiberglass reinforced plastic and 7-8 times faster than aluminum. The bond line may fail even if the bond is made at a typical water temperature, but bonding them with the hull flipped over in full sun on a summer afternoon will pre-stress the bond line when it’s in the water and the HDPE shrinks.

Q: what is the temperature rating? want to use as floor material for inboard boat covering under floor through exhaust

We do not recommend using this in an environment where it will have continuous exposure to temperatures higher than 160 degrees fahrenheit. Thanks.

The surface has a very minor texture. It's not perfectly smooth.
