Does the butter in the container touch the bottom of the lid?

No, it does not. I have used both the stick butter and the square "Irish Butter" and neither has touched the lid.

Does it have butter printed on both sides?

No, it is only printed on one side.

Not sure about where it is made, but love the butter dish. Going to order another.

Is this dishwasher safe? Or should it be washed by hand?

Hand wash, you should not put wood in the dishwasher and i'm not sure if the metal/enamel base is safe in there. Seems like it would chip easy
