They were ok... took a long time to soften...
Was disappointed they did not taste like the old cream peas my Mom cooked years ago.

Lovely dried beans. Cook in an hour. Wonderful clean, sweet palette to create a masterpiece with!
I wanted fresh lady cream peas and could not find them anywhere. Couldn't find the dried beans in any local grocery store either. So, I came here to Amazon and bought these Camellia brand. They are great! Dried, but fresh enough to cook up in one hour--just like the directions state. They are sweet and lovely. Even when we wanted something simple, and I just added butter--no salt, even--they tasted wonderfully rich and satisfying. When I cooked them plain--no smoked meat, no onion, no spice or herb--the house filled with the smell of peanut butter while they were cooking on the stove top. They definitely have a nutty aroma and flavor. These Lady Cream peas are NOT like the light green Zipper Cream peas. These are white and about half the size of Zipper Cream peas. Even though they (and the Zipper) are called "peas", they are really beans.Dried, but definitely not old, beans. Will buy again! Wish I could find them in a grocery store, because--as these here are sold singly--we are paying a large shipping cost for each bag. Wish I could find an Amazon seller that offers more than one bag at a time.....

Delicious and clean
I eat at least a cup of beans per day as a Nutritarian but never grew up eating beans so it was tricky finding the type that I liked. So far, my favorites have been Butter Beans or Gigantes , Royal Corona (from Rancho Gorda but they are expensive and take a week to pack and ship them) but these are right up there with them!Very clean. Fresh! I made one batch unsoaked in plain water and they were cooked in one hour. They were creamy and good. I put them back for another 30 minutes until they split a tiny bit (some of them) and they were creamier more like the butter bean after you cook it 3 hours! Then I made a batch soaked in water and another batch soaked in stock but they haven't finished cooking yet.

Buying grocery store equivalents often leaves you disappointed. Louisiana -- New Orleans in particular -- creates ...
Why go to the trouble to order beans? I know, it seems to be real "foodie" purchase. Probably so. Still, sometimes it's worth going out of your way. This is one brand worth the trouble and expense. How many times have you travelled and then tried to re-create the flavors of the foods you ate somewhere? Buying grocery store equivalents often leaves you disappointed. Louisiana -- New Orleans in particular -- creates unforgettable food memories -- red beans and rice, jambalaya, creoles -- and to get even close to the authentic flavors, it takes tracking down the ingredients used locally. Camellia beans are the real deal. Lady cream peas are a specialty. Follow the directions on the package and you get something wonderful. It won't be made with New Orleans tap water, but the peas will make difference you can taste. Remember to read the whole recipe or you're going wind up with enough food for a party, which may not be a bad idea. Laissez le bon temps rouler!

Delicious!
My family had never eaten or prepared Lady Cream Peas before, but had heard of them. I was excited to try these! This 1 lb bag was really easy to prepare. I did a quick soak; boiling for 4 minutes and allowing to sit for an hour. I then rinsed them and put them in a crockpot with chopped ham, onions, garlic, parsley, thyme, salt & pepper. We ate this for dinner served over rice and will eat the leftovers served over corn bread. Our family really likes meals with beans so we really enjoyed them. We will most definitely be purchasing more of these 1lb dried beans to try out new recipes. I got too excited when preparing these and forgot to take a picture of the beans dry. Below you will see a picture of the recipe we prepared.I received this at a discounted price for my fair and honest review.

Excellent beans - and gluten free!
I have a hard time finding nice beans that are gluten free - yes, beans are naturally gf, but many are processed with wheat and I can't buy them. I had never tried this brand or these particular beans before - but we made an awesome bean soup with them and will definitely be buying dried beans from this company from now on. And really liked these particular beans because they were small and very tasty. thx!

I very much like the rather mild flavor but not so mild as to be boring. I had a problem with them because I did something wrong and they didn't get really soft. I cooked them for hours and hours. They got soft enough to be pleasant to eat, but not soft enough to start to melt like pintos. I'm guessing that it was because I over soaked them. Yes, I will buy them again. Thank you.

Crunchy peas?
Not liking these Lady "Cream" peas. Named for it's "creamy" texture. I have soaked them overnight and they have been in the slow cooker for nearly 14 hours. They still have a crunchy texture, like other peas and beans that are not fully cooked. From all I've read and recipes I looked at they shouldn't have taken this long. I know that eating under cooked peas and beans can give you stomach cramps so I am reluctant to eat them. Try at your own risk or, if you have had a good experience with them, please let me know.
