Very useful battery tester
I purchased this to test my 6-volt deep cycle batteries used on my RV. As things sometimes work out the day I received my tester my cars battery light came on. I have never seen this light up when driving and seeing how I replaced the alternator about a year ago I felt it might have been the battery going bad. I opened the hood to inspect the battery which is now 3 year and 2 months old. (2 months past the free replacement warranty period). I was about to pull out the battery and go purchase a new one when I remembered I had just purchased this fancy battery tester.I hooked up the tester which powers on as soon as it is connected to the battery. The first thing I see is the battery voltage which was reading low. (Now worried about the alternator not charging the battery) I ran the battery test. The menu is easy to follow, and the tester had me perform actions like turn on my headlights then turn them off so it could measure the drop in voltage. Anyways good news was the battery was fine as identified by the test tool.I cleaned the post and reconnected and started the car and now the light on the dash was off and after driving around for about 30-45 minutes (maybe longer) I retested and the voltage had climbed back up and the tester was no longer telling me the battery needed to be charged.I also tested my 2 6-volt batteries. both are reading a low charge and they need to be replaced. I'm running a full charge on them now to make sure they are floated then will retest. If the test tool continues to tell me they need to be replaced I will take them back into Batteries Plus to have them test. The reason for this is my Inverter will not power up and throws a low voltage alarm which has me thinking one of the two new 6 volt batteries are bad. The test tool is telling me they both are bad so will continue my testing and will hopefully update this review with my findings. At this point I'm very happy with this tester, it is easy to use and seems durable.

Excellent for individual use
Very good, simple battery tester. This unit is temperature compensated and has separate testing capabilities to test a battery whether it is installed in the vehicle or disconnected. Tests separately for cranking amps and cold cranking amps. Provides state of charge status and charging recommendations. Provides state of health as well as replacement recommendation. As good or better than most commercial testers.

Does the Job
This battery tester works fine. It’s nothing fancy, and for the price it was a good purchase. It does what I need it to do and haven’t run into any issues with the limited number of times I’ve used it.

Worked on lead acid wet cell car batteries and dan AGM sump pump backup batteries.
Shortly after receiving the unit, I tested a six-year-old lead-acid wet cell car battery and it indicated a replacement was needed, likely due to low measured CCAs (Cold Cranking Amps) versus the battery rating. I tested a very old AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) battery used for a battery backup sump pump and it indicated that the battery was bad, likely due to low MCAs (Marine Cranking Amps) versus the battery rating. I tested a one-year-old lead-acid wet cell car battery and it indicated the battery was good, i.e. the CCAs were measured slightly over the battery's rating. The battery has to be fully charged before it is tested. I had to input three items using the simple menu before testing each battery: Type of Battery (AGM, Lead Acid, Gel); Numeric Battery Rating (765 CCAs, 900 MCAs, etc.); Battery In or Out of Car. If you want to recheck the same battery the prior inputs are remembered, so you don't have to reenter/change them.It was nice to be able to test my backup sump pump battery without hauling it out of the basement. Its nice to be able to test older batteries in cars and mowers in place instead of guessing about the health of older batteries.I doubt that the unit would do well if dropped on cement, but for the cost, I expected this.

A must have for the DIYer!
This was the deciding factor in whether I should replace my battery or buy a battery charger. The battery in my BMW discharged beyond the point of being recharged by the car. The dealership quoted me at approximately $600 for a replacement. After doing research, I found that having it charged may be the fix. This tool confirmed it. I bought a charger, charged the battery, and I’ve had no issues whatsoever. The charger I used was a NOCO Genius 10 amp.

Works great
I needed to test my AGM Battery which was less than two years old this battery tester quickly told me the status of my battery voltage and CCA (Cold Cranking Amps) that were available. That said it paid for itself I was able to use my warranty to exchange the defective battery as well as be able to check the status of my other cars batteries making it easier to plan for replacements when needed. Great product everyone with a 12v battery should own one of these.
