Everyday Crochet: Wearable Designs Just for You

Easy Designs to Build a Wardrobe
This is a nice collection of simple crochet wardrobe basics. Most of the items are variations on a theme, and almost all are based on shells. They are good for beginners. Each item is given in a large variety of sizes, from petite to plus sizes, with finished bust sizes ranging from about 34 inches up to 56 and some even up to 60 inches. So they should fit just about anyone.I believe all the garments are crocheted from the top down, with simple construction. The top-down method makes it especially easy to adjust the length. So, for instance, some of the tops could be made into dresses. The chapters are divided into cami-tanks, pullovers, cardigans, vests, coats and belts/closures). Several of the items are quite attractive, and, in fact, I purchased it specifically for a pretty tunic (Eve's Rib Tunic) with an optional collar and armbands. I saw it pictured elsewhere and had to have it.

Everyday Crochet: Wearable Designs Just For You
A very handy book with multiple patterns and design options that guide you to making crochet garments that fit you. Based on top down method in one piece with no seaming. This book uses a very basic shirt top with neck, length, and sleeve variations, pullover and open front, and various edgings. Types of yarns are discussed with substitution results and hook size adjustments to achieve various affects. Adjustments for all sizes from petite to tall, xxS to xxxxL, and how to accomodate for size differences between bust and hips. A simple instruction book that can be applied to any crochet garment. Lovely crochet designs!
I love this book!! Great patterns for crochet clothing that fits and flows. Each pattern comes in a wide range of sizes (not just for skinny people!) to ensure a good fit. The top-down construction technique eliminates all the tedious seaming many crochet patterns use. This is a few years old and unfortunately, many of the recommended yarns are no longer available, but I've substituted different brands, weights, and fibers without any unexpected consequences. The designs do rely on the foundation sc technique, which can be challenging but is so worthwhile to master. Expect to do lots of frogging on your first few attempts … there are parts which can be difficult to understand at first, but once you get the hang of Ms. Chan's style, it's like a lightbulb turns on and it all makes sense. There are a few base patterns with several variations, which seems limited until you realize that you can take pieces you like from different patterns and combine them in many ways to really customize your garments.I really recommend this book if you're interested in making crochet garments without the hideous, ugly bulk that plagues so many patterns.

Had a good look at this in the store
I had a very good look at this in the store, and I thought I'd take the time to put what I saw here, as I noticed its hard to find pictures of whats inside this book on the web. There are quite a few designs in this book, but they work building off what I think was 5 or 7 basic designs. So there's a tank, and then a variation on the tank. There's a sweater and then ways to vary the sweater. Some of the ways to vary the designs are pretty significant so that you start varying after the second round, and if a variation is not siginficant it only takes up a page.Pictures show the item from more than one angle, and also laying flat, which I like as you can tell what it looks like. Every design inside uses shells. There are more than one type of shell design. There are mostly tops, but also some variations to turn into dresses and coats. There are also coat/sweaters and finally belts. I do think as advertised there's a lot of meat and potato wearable designs.I have used her designs before, sometimes I find her directions hard to understand, but once I 'get' what she's trying to say I think they are easy to make. Everything in this book is made starting with the neck, and there are no seams. She gives many ideas about varying yarns to make a different effect, and there are good pictures of the shell structures. I like that she shapes the items so you have curves instead of blocky clothing.

useful patterns
I have owned this book for about six months and have made several items from it.Good things: there are several different options for bust and waist shaping, and variety in neck openings etc. there is a little variety in yarn weight. Not so good things: The pattern stitch used is always a shell pattern - there are two or three variations of shell only. The pattens are quite difficult to read - I know others have said this, and I do find myself reading and re-reading the pattern to get a sense of what is needed, even though i have been crocheting for years and would call myself an experienced crocheter. The biggest plus is that you do end up with some very usefula nd wearable items, and in that sense, the book does fulfil the promise of the title and provide you with 'everyday' crocheted garments.

Modern wearable crochet!
I am finding this a very inspirational book to use. As someone who has only been crocheting for a few months, I thought making wearable garments was far beyond my capabilities, but this book has proved otherwise. The instructions are clear and simple to follow and whilst I wouldn't say these are easy projects for a beginner, they are achievable with a little confidence as you only use a handful of stitches. The patterns are in american terms so if you arent used to these then you will have to convert beforehand but the stitches used and all the information you need are very clearly given at the start of each pattern. Every design is something that wouldn't look out of place in a modern wardrobe.

I love the book of Everyday Crochet by Doris Chan
I love the book of Everyday Crochet by Doris Chan.. as I have seen lots of her patterns in garments made by one of people I subscribe to in crochet, I have not made any thing yet, as I have work in progress. but have read through and know I will have many years of happy crocheting from this book. I would recommend this book because not only do you get lots of patterns in the book, but also clarity and help to solve any problems, also the range of sizes are varying from small right up to very large, so there is scope for everyone to achieve a garment of choice. I wish you all many days of happy Crocheting. <3

Fantastic and Stylish
This is a really well-written book of classy designs which are dateless and easily adaptable for all figures. Small- to Large sizes ( 60 inch bust for instance) are catered for, which is great. The format is larger than expected, the print size is good, except in the intro- which I find a bit small, but then again, I probably need to put on my reading glasses!I like Doris Chan's designs very much, they are not outre or difficult and she seems to understand the need for good design coupled with ease of making.I think most average to expert crocheters would value this book as an addition to their library.I bought this book after seeing Mei-Mei the cover design, on Ravelry and was pleased to find other designs I liked within.

One of my favourite crochet designers!
Some good wearable patterns unlike some other crochet books!Tops all classic styles and simple top brown construction.Instructions are ok, on the whole clear but worth a read through before starting!Plenty of support on patterns to be found on the Ravelry website & you can see other people’s completed items for an idea if the patterns in the book are for you!
