Green/Green : Nalgene OTF Bottle Lid

Fits my 4year old bottle great! Doesn't leak as well. Bought it to replace my old cover which has some black stuff growing on the rubber. Highly recommended!

As other reviewers pointed out already, this lid has serious molding problem on the silicone inside. My original lid started having a black spot a few months in, I tried everything including bleach and vinegar, nothing worked. I decided to give it another try even though I had read other reviewers' warning. How wrong could I be! This time I tried cleaning the lid thoroughly daily. Still, it started having a black spot a few months later and then another appeared. The mold just keeps growing. Initially I thought it's probably due to the saliva so I cleaned it daily but it doesn't seem to do anything. I mean, it's a water bottle, it's impossible for me to clean it after every sip right?! The lid works really well other than this but this is serious. I have continued to use it but the water tastes a bit "sweet" after the molding appeared, it could be mental but I have very sensitive taste bud. I don't want to risk my health drinking some water with mold or fungus. Furthermore, the lid was only good for about 2 months before the mold appears. I feel absolutely horrible for creating two plastic garbage by buying one in addition to the original. The whole purpose of me having a water bottle is that I want to be green and this is just me creating more plastic waste. This has been a problem for a long time if you see the dates of other reviews and it seems Nalgene has done absolutely nothing to solve the problem. I will probably buy another silicone free lid from them if I have to otherwise, I will not buy from Nalgene again, not that they care anyway.

I really want to like this top and I can't seem to find any others so I'm sticking with it. I love how it spring-pops open so I can open it with one hand. No leaking at all even when upside down (as long as you close it all the way). This top lasted me 2 years before the little tab broke (see pic) and even after that, when the silver hook is in place, it doesn't leak.Biggest thing is this mildew stain that never goes away. I don't think it changes the water quality in any way but its a mental thing. Why would you drink out of something that looks dirty (even if its not)? Theres no way to clean off this stain once it sets in so unless Nalgene creates a new kind of stainless silicone, then we're stuck with this.

This lid is easy to screw on and remove, to clean, and is pleasant to drink from, but closing the cap is awkward and surprisingly difficult. The ring it has to secure the lid is nice, but not very easy to release, so I don’t use it. Unfortunately, the lid doesn’t want to close easily, either, so I have to push down pretty hard to make sure it won’t jus pop open again. Maybe I just got a faulty one, but I can’t recommend this based on my experience.

Great design, but the plastic catch is going to be the fail point. We're the innards made of metal I would love it and gladly pay more. I wish there was a "Buy-It-Once Quality" of everything. I expect this will last a year at most, and the original plastic lid made it nearly two.Edit: If you like to have your belongings wet at random times and no water to drink, this thing is great. But the metal clip broke off in a month, and then it opens at random and soaks everything. One of those things was a laptop. Switched back to the old style unless these are made better.
