Successful Christmas Gift
I got this one for my cousin as an Xmas gift. I wasn't entirely certain that she would like it because she primarily listens to indie rock like best coast and arcade fire. But i gifted this one to her nonetheless and turns out she loved it.****10+ cool cousin points earned****

my intro to Sonic youth
sonic youth hooks me as soon as I heard Teenage Riot. This album was an album that hit me in the gut and instantly hooked me. After listening to this song and a few others, I decided I needed to own this album that many considered to be one of sonic youth's best. After listening to it, I must say that this band is one of the most unique and interesting bands I have ever heard. Their sound is completely their own and every song sounds unique to their band. No other band could cover any song on this album and make it sound as good as the original. Thurston moore sings in a way that can be angry, alluring, and awe inspiring all at once. Kim's vocals sound both extremely seductive and sexy while still containing biting force and personal introspection especially on the song "The sprawl". I honestly can't describe any of the songs on this album. Many of these songs can go from sounding as melodic as a rock ballad to as hard hitting as a hardcore punk song. many of these songs actually seem like self-contained stories which guide the listener on a personal journey through each one. However, despite how this album is described their seem to be slight issues with the album that prevent it from being a better listening experience for me. Between Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon's vocals, I always prefer Thurston's vocals to Kim. Kim does a good job singing, but on some songs she sounds kind of nasally. Plus, I believe Thurston's vocals simply fit better with the music. Instrumentation wise, many of the songs do similar things and keep it that way. many of the longer songs tend to overstay their welcome back filtering the remainder of their runtimes with repeating instrumental lines or what I would like to call musical filler. Each song, although they may be good, tend to remain in a set boundary without taking the chance of doing anything too different. Plus, it seems like there isn't really any song that really grabs your attention and holds it there. Sonic youth is good at making melodies that accurately compliment the lyrics. But without any bite to them, it can be extremely easy for someone to lose attention in the easy-listening. The album title Daydream nation says it all " it can make you go into a trance to send your mind elsewhere, which is both a positive and negative. This album may be kind of sleeper hit for me. I like it as it is now, but I may need to listen to it more to appreciate all the miniscule details that make this album invigorating and different. However, as it is now I can say the album is good, but it could have been better for me as a new comer to the band.

Brilliant & Atonal!
This spins around in circles effectively; and placing a phonograph needle in the groove will produce shocking sounds!

Fantastic Album and Fantastic Customer Service
Great Album, unfortunately the 1st one I got had a slight blemish in the first five or so seconds of the first track. Every other track was flawless. I was going to just live with it but was bothering me so I retuned it and was sent a new one quickly. Just finished listening to new the whole album and its perfect. Wonderful on my Pro-ject turntable, Muzishare X7 tube amp and Tekton double Impact Speakers, which is a fairly reveling set up.

Daydream Nation
An excellent album by Sonic Youth. Great gate fold and 180 gram record. A must have for any fan of alternative rock.

Classic Album.
My only complaint, and it's the same with the Goo reissue, is that the sleeves that hold the LPs come unglued very easily. But other than that, the price is right for the set and it's one of the greatest albums of all time. The additional material isn't mind-blowing, but it's a lot of fun to have.

PKD meets Ellroy in Sonic bust up
Had this on vinyl years ago but lost it in a move. Since bought the expanded CD but nothing is like the turning of the sides and the soace that that entails to reveal the majesty of the whole. Kick it!

2014
I was too young for this when it was first released, although not by much. While I quickly caught up with the likes of the Pixies and Janes Addiction, for some reason Sonic Youth were not really on my teenage radar (other than a few songs from different albums). I have recently realised that I was missing something wonderful and the good news is, it's not too late. It sometimes gets criticised for being too mainstream, so you may want to look elsewhere if you prefer obscure, but for others I think the balance between melodic songs and harsher sounds is what makes this album so popular.
