Are these towels see-through?

When I compare them to a few other brands of flour sack towels, these are a tad thicker and less see through.  So, you can see through them, but they are not as sheer as a sheer curtain.

Question 2

Being white don't these towels become stained easily?  Can they be bleached?

do not use bleach, i use shout stain remover and tide and the towels come out clean & white.  my mother-in law started me out on flour sack dish towels when i first got married, 46 years ago.  they are the best, so i bought 2 sets and will eventually  buy more, in case they stop making them, happy dish washing.   mrs. steinhauer

What is the thread count?

It is very easy to count the threads yourself. Make sure you spread out the cloth on a flat surface. I tape mine down when doing this. Using a ruler, carefully mark off a 2 inch segment, along a single thread of the warp. (Those are the ones that go from selvage to selvage if using yard goods.) Just pick a side if using cut fabric. Stick a pin in the fabric to mark the 0 and 2 inch spots, count the threads and divide by two. This tends to be more accurate than trying to count a single inch of threads. Tightly woven cotton will be about 50 to 85 t.p.i. in my experience. Any higher, and it becomes more sheet-like & shiny, any less, and you can make out gaps between the threads. You might check both directions, as they won't be the same like Aida cloth. That's how I do it; but there are probably more ways out there. If you want tightly woven cotton with a high thread count for a craft, use cotton sheets, or sheeting material at the fabric store. It will NOT be evenweave, though. So keep that in mind. Hope this helps those who are also curious!
