They are sized like all other socks are. Adult is usually 8-12. The 5-9 are for teens or someone with small feet. Size 8 shoe, get the 8-12.

Not at all!! I love these socks! They are the best socks I ever owned! I hate socks. Especially if they are too thick. These are thin but well made with heal amd overall foot support! I love the breathable material & Im here to buy more even though I still have a few unused pair still! Great price as well! I have long feet. A soze 11 in woman’s. These fit me perfect unlike others. It’s like memory foam but they don’t go out of shape! lol

Hikers: do these socks work as a liner under another sock to help create a friction barrier?

They fit and feel like nylon booties. I believe they could be worn inside another thicker sock but would not do any extensive/extreme workouts with just this sock alone. U haven't tried it but I can see where it would work just fine that way.
