Very nice tool for a challenging job.
"Learn from the mistakes of others because you won't live long enough to make them all yourself." Since these 5.4L Triton plugs are a nightmare, and also not the same size as any of my other generic spark plug sockets, I went ahead and bought the OTC 6900 Spark Plug Socket and I'm glad I did. After taking the advice of many other people and employing several tips and tricks, I was able to get the original (18 year old) factory plugs out of the engine in one piece -- but only just barely. Of the things I struggled with, the spark plug socket wasn't one of them! It fits like a glove and works like a champ.

Such a headache saver!
I love this tool. I've always changed my own spark plugs and even taught my boys how to change their own. So frustrating when you install a spark plug and pull on the extension only to leave the socket in the hole and have to fish it out. This doesn't do that. The first time I pulled it, I laughed and thought what a genius tool for something so simple. This made the experience a lot easier and a lot more efficient. Great tool for the price! Used on my 2010 Mustang and couldn't have been happier!

Best tool for the job!
This is THE spark plug socket you want for your 5.4 3V engine. Proper fit, plenty of length to get on the plug with no need for a bunch of extensions. Just keep it straight and in line with the spark plug, otherwise you run the risk of breaking the plug as you remove it.

The depth of the spark plug once inserted into the socket hangs at that perfect height with only threads exposed beneath the soc
The spark plug socket does everything you expect. The rubber insert holds the plug in place so that you don't need to fish around for them with a pair of long needle nose pliars. The entire assembly is a solid piece so that the "extension" cannot separate from the socket. The depth of the spark plug once inserted into the socket hangs at that perfect height with only threads exposed beneath the socket making it about as low profile as possible to manipulate plugs in the tight rearmost cylinders. The burled grip at the top is appreciated for hand turning and there is a small drilled hole at the ratchet receiver to provide that firm click upon affixing a 3/8 drive and then knowing it will not fall off the ratchet. A clever tool with a lot of things thought through. I would have given it 5 stars, but for that it should have cost less than $20.

The right tool for the job!
If you have ever tried to change spark plugs on a Ford 5.4L or equivalent, you will love this socket! The 5.4L has the plugs inside a deep well in the valve cover and with this socket you won't need a extension because this tool has that part built in. This socket allows you to get to the plug and maximizes the torque and control you need to remove the plug. I highly recommend this socket and I have used it numerous times on other engines with equal success!

Works well for 2008 Ford Mustang 3v old style plugs 4.6 v8
I got lucky, This is pretty much the way the factory wants you to perform the spark plug change(early Ford 3v V8 have a stupid 2 piece plug that can break off from carbon buildup) First I ran techron fuel injector cleaner in the gas tank and drove it for a while to try and clean away the possible carbon buildup on the spark plugs. When ready for the change I warmed up the car up by taking it for a drive first then used compressed air to remove debris from the spark plug area removed coils, cleaned area again with compressed air. I sprayed a small bit of wd-40 down the holes. Cracked the spark plugs 1/8 to 1/4 turn then sprayed carb cleaner down the holes and let soak for a while. If your the plugs break loose but then are hard to remove- be careful to not use more than 35 ftlbs of torque to remove, you have to work them loose with carb cleaner, lightly tighten and loosen a bit at a time while working more carb cleaner down the hole. I got lucky and only one plug was tight but came out after a few back and forth twisting. If you are unlucky then you need a special lisle ford spark plug removal tool or remove the head if that fails. When installing the new plugs use silver anti-seize on the smooth extension as well as the threads, do not coat the electrode strap. Late 2008 they changed the design to a one piece spark plug, ford has a new design for these spark plugs, best practice is to replace these every 50k miles to avoid the carbon buildup.

Needed for F-150 plugs
Fantastic product! I used this on a 2008 F-150 5.4, and broke 0 spark plugs. This spark plug socket was long enough to easily get on each plug, than add any needed extensions. It gripped each plug nicely and never had one fall out while pulling them out, or putting new ones in. Would recommend this for anyone with a F-150.
