Impressive, Efficient & Sculpturally Beautiful to Behold
Because I have a large home (4 floors), I purchased two Coway 300S units. If it had been available, I would gladly have purchased the less expensive 300 model without Wifi capability.Impressive Improvement in Air QualityImpressive air purification performance. Both my husband and I suffer from allergies. After a short time, our symptoms/health have massively improved. I keep a box of tissue in most every room and am stunned how much my need to use tissues has radically declined. I no longer reach for a tissue as my first order of ‘business’ upon wakingWhen I first received the machine, the air quality indicator showed that our home wasn’t very polluted. However, upon use, the ‘feel’ of our home has greatly improved and we are feeling so much better in it. For this reason alone, I am in love with this machine. I’ve had a few different makes/models before this and don’t think they work as effectively or efficiently at clearing the air as the Coway300.I especially appreciate that this model does not use electrostatic or negative ions to clean the air. These technologies are included in many of the air cleaners I considered and immediately excluded because not only do they create ozone but it encourages the negatively charged larger particles to ‘stick’ to large surfaces such as walls or curtains. I do not welcome the additional cost or maintenance of what many other air cleaners consider a ‘feature’.Like most things in life, however, this unit is not perfect as I outline further below.AppearanceSimply and beautifully designed sculpture. I particularly like the footings which elevate it and give the illusion of taking up less floor space. It’s sculptural, textural and visual design make it visually appealing and a welcome addition to my existing decor.MaintenanceThe filters are easy to access, clean and replace. The HEPA filter is particularly significant— *two* sets in each machine — and are of an impressive depth, especially when compared to other HEPA filters I’ve seen/had.Cost/BenefitExpensive: yes. Worth it: to me, yes. I’ve investigated the cost of replacement filters as given the size and high degree of quality of the filters, I think, comparatively speaking, they are reasonably priced.WifiIf you’re into apps it’s there but not my ‘thing’ so I couldn’t advise on this.Night ModeLove how the lights can be switched off while I try to sleep. There is only a small dot of light still aglow, but I’m so light sensitive that I cover it with a small, sturdy piece of cardboard and the low-speed sound is like ‘white noise’ and not at all disruptive.Short CordWish the cord were a wee bit longer.Faulty On/Off buttonThe buttons are touch sensitive. Learned that it's not just a momentary tap to switch on/off but rather a lingering 2-3 second touch to activate the switch. Had to learn to have a wee bit more patience with this function as I at first, though it was faulty ;-)VibrationsVibrations/noise on one of the purchased units transformed over time and had to return. I hope this was an 'outlier' problem. This is the finest air cleaner with which I am familiar and find it is very unobstusive, especially at night. This is the quietest air purifier I've ever owned...and I've had many different models.

One of the worst apps I’ve seen on iOS
I’ve been looking at this unit for a while and it came in offer. Without the offer it’s way overpriced especially given the cost of getting things online. Let’s face it it’s not mission critical kit and your not talking 10s of thousands of transactions a second so you could do this with a couple of servers over the same network as your corporate internet connection so minimal cost to run. The wifi hardware inside is literally less than a pound so the extra cost is a little bit if a con.But hey you want App control sometimes you have to pay the price. Now the quality of the unit seems pretty good. It’s quite large so don’t expect to spot it against a wall you going to need a bit of space, but that’s why you bought it.Noise: not much between this unit and my fellow dx55. Both make a bit of a row when above the minimum.Air purifying: this is the good part. It genuinely felt like the unit was cleaning the air. I have a very dusty house for to a ton of diy I have going on and some times i the air does feel pretty polluted. You could feel the air was cleaner.App control: this is where the company lets itself down so much. It’s app is one of the worst things I have used. It didn’t want to work out of the box. Given I’ve been in the it industry for over 36 years and configured some pretty complex stuff this is genuinely poor. Once configured it’s even more disappointing, the app requires you to log in manually every. Single. Time. Why Coway just why? Not only does it do that but it didn’t want to control the unit at All. It was about a minute from going back in the box and being returned and it started working, but good it’s slow. Without doubt the worst app on iOS. Have the people that written the app not used an iPhone before? Please send them on a course or better still just employ someone competent to with your app. Charging that much extra for app control is borderline theft given the quality of the app.I may well for giggles build a diy version with 4 ultra quiet noctua PC fans and an ESP32 and home assistant plus esp home just to see if I can do a better job.Update on air purification.A this unit says it fillers down to the size of bacteria and viruses I decided to leave it going as I got covid. Didn’t make me recover any faster but I did check how well it’s doing by shining a really bright torch towards in the dark. You can see the dust floating in the air and after this has been running for a couple of days there was literally no dust in the air at all. Zero. So for air purification I would give it 5 stars but the app still drags it down as of December 2023. Come on coway do better.
