Great starter!
Installed easily in my Chevelle with no need for shims. This is a nice starter and can be clocked at a different angle if the solenoid interferes with headers etc. I didn’t need to, it bolted in easily with 2 bolts and started up perfectly.

it fit my Chevy 350 engine.
I was having issues with the standard engine starter fitting inside the bellhousing . This starter doesn't have a bearing shroud , so it worked well, and bolted into place without an issue. the starter motor spins at 2800 rpm, and has gear reduction with more power to turn my 300 hp engine over, using less amperage.

Save your money
The pinion gear on the starter is much shorter than the factory one. It also sits much farther and doesn't engage the full length of the teeth on the flywheel. The instruction even state something like 50% engagement is fine. How is this okay? It will wear your flywheel or flexplate out at record speed or not even work if you have a slightly worn flywheel/flexplate. Mine was a little worn but worked flawlessly with the stock starter and also the gm hiperformance ministarter I replaced the powermaster with. I believe they don't extend as far because of the more leverage on the bearing. Cheap materials I guess. Also, after taking the solenoid off I noticed the arm that moves the bendix from the solenoid is plastic!!! How long is that goimg to last being next to the exhaust before it gets brittle and breaks? Wish I could return it but I just got to putting it on. Save your money and buy a better one or use stock with the nose cone.

Do Not Use Jumper Wire
Product is excellent, lightweight and much easier to install without a rack. As this is probably my 50th starter install on old muscle cars, both for my builds and customer builds, I did the stupid thing and didn't read the instructions. The 1971 El Camino has a roller 383 stroker, and an external Ford Solenoid from previous installs. I wired it like i would always wire it, with a jumper wire. Thank God on the first start attempt i heard the starter stay engaged, and shut it off. Went back and read the instructions and yep, these PMGR starters only require a 10-12GA wire from the load side of the Ford Solenoid down to the S terminal on the Powermaster Starter's solenoid. So its a simple move of the 2 gauge battery cable from the load side to the battery side (kind of a bitch getting both battery cables on), but as soon as i wired the 10GA wire from load side down, it fired up and continues to fire up perfectly every time. Great product, will buy many more in the future.

Let's get this thing started!
Seems to be a quality product. I did have some issues installing it. The pinion gear is a little short. Called customer service and didn't get much help. I actually called on two different occasions and talked with the same guy. He listened to my issue and then just read what seemed like a prepared statement and then mumbled a few things. He didn't seem to have knowledge of the product. I needed to know something very specific and had to become a little pushy to get him to go find the detail that I needed. So product quality good, customer service not good.

Starter for the Vortec engine
We tried ordering a starter from OPG in seal Beach CA. Where we bought a crate motor for this car and from Autozone. And we were unsuccessful to get the correct starter. I ordered this started from Amazon and it fit and worked perfectly.

happy with it-- '67 camaro with a SBC 350
i can pick this thing up with my pinky finger. the old starter was in the way of the bell and weighed around 40lbs. starts quick, sounds great. 67 camaro with a 350. not a huge fan of the alen bolts, they couldve used regular ones. my header is in the way, so i had to tighten the one bolt down with vice grips. it's right next to the headers, no heat shield. lets see how long it lasts, that'll be the ultimate test.

The starter build quality is excellent, but it has a major fitment issue with some BBC 454 Mark iv engines. Even after removing all shims, the pinion gear reach was insufficient, covering less than 50% of the flexplate teeth. This causes mechanical binding and potential damage to the ring gear. If you have a 454, double-check your clearance before installing."

Cranks my 450hp sbc no problem, just remember to shim it properly.

Nicely built starter, fits my 396 perfectly and spins it over effortlessly. Came with bolts and shims(did not need shims). Super fast delivery.

Bench tested prior to install - Dead out of the box. Non-returnable for reasons I understand with automotive electrical parts but the listing clearly states "eligible for refund or replacement". This product arrived non-functional. Suspect issue with solenoid as the Bendix doesn't even engage. Useless & can't return it. Bought another Powermaster starter a day before receiving this one for a higher compression application because Amazon had the best price & maybe that one will actually work. Now I have to deal with the manufacturer's customer service to convince them it's defective & wait even longer to get a return/refund/replacement. Never again. *Updated* - Amazon customer service took care of this defective starter by issuing a refund. There's more than a few reviews stating the same problem I encountered. Avoid the risk for the tempting price.
