Omaha Steaks - 1 (18 oz. pkg.) Pub-Style Cod

The steaks may be OK, but the so-called pub-style cod is a major disappointment...go to aLong John Silver's outlet -- you will pay less, wait less...what you get does not lookanything like this picture.

I eat a lot of fish, so decided to give these a try. I was surprised at the small portion for the price - barely enough for two servings. Plus I had three pieces of inedible battered fins in my bag - something I've never encountered in any other brand. The flavor of the edible chunks was bland, so plan on serving with a sauce or condiments. And plan on supplementing the small portions with plenty of side dishes if you use the Pub-Style Cod as a main course. I like many of the Omaha Steaks products, but I sure felt like an idiot for spending my money on this Pub-Style Cod.

I could not see much difference in these and the grocery store filets. Good flavor though. I expected larger pieces from Omaha.

I have enjoyed Omaha Steaks Pub-Style Cod for 10 years now. I am not a fish lover, but my husband is and we both agree this is the tops for at home cooking. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is due to the cost and packaging. However I can't find frozen battered Cod anywhere else so if you want a treat I highly recommend it. The packaging is difficult to dispose of but necessary to keep it frozen to your door as with all their products. I was thrilled to find it on Amazon instead of ordering it from Omaha Steak (not that I have any problems with them, I just find Amazon easier and with good pricing consistently instead of searching for discounts. You can get your seafood in an enjoyable form and use as much or as little at a time as you want. It isn't mixed with other fish or just a thin little piece, they are basically triangle shaped pieces that you can sink you teeth into and not come up with just batter. I have an esophagus problem and I have to be particularly careful about bones and little surprises that can happen in fish and chicken products but I have never had a single problem with this particular brand.

The product is alright. All I ask is why can't I order 2 packets of pub cod and pay the same shipping charges?
