I’ve only used it 3 times up to now but very good. It takes some getting used to in order to trim in tight spaces or to follow a tight line like along lawn edging. You’ll inadvertently take a bigger bite that you want. It’s a little heavier than you might expect which adds to the control challenges in tight spaces. It has a variable speed trigger which I suppose is good for some people but I’d prefer a set speed on the trimmer line. As for the edger, it’s great all around. Very straight forward and does a good job. It allows you to adjust how deep you want to cut and cuts an easy, clean line.

I love that they are interchangeable! It cuts down on all the tools in the garage. Both the trimmer and edger attachments are great. We read a lot of reviews when choosing this combo and I definitely know we picked the right one for us! I am 5’3 and my husband is 6’7. We can both use this tool with ease. The game changer for me was the shoulder strap that is sold separately. I recommend paying the extra money to get the strap, especially if you are new to trimming/shorter/not as strong. Even if you are not any of these things, it will still make it much easier and give your back/shoulders/arms a break. The battery is pretty good and charges fast. I can trim the whole yard on one charge but if I am really taking my time I may need to do a quick charge to finish the rest. This isn’t a problem for me as I just take a small break and get a drink while I get enough of a charge to finish. 10/10 would definitely recommend!

***UPDATE*** I used the string trimmer for the first time today….. wow it cuts better with more power than my toro gas trimmer. I would have NEVER believed that a battery powered device would work so good. After 3 days of using the edger and EGO leaf blower they seem to be not as heavy,,, hmmmmm good workout for this 68 year old Navy vet :))) I needed a new String trimmer because my gas powered one died after 13 years of use. It was Prime days so I found the EGO String trimmer and edger to be too good of a deal to pass up. Pros, I edged approximately 75 yards in length. It’s the first time I used an edger on my neighbors sidewalk and mine including my driveway. It cut like a hot knife going through warm butter. The battery did not even get to half charge yet. It’s really quiet as one would expect from a battery powered lawn tool. Excellent battery life. It’s great not having to mix fuel or coming into the house smelling of fuel fumes! I’m also not ruining my ears anymore than they already are. :)) It’s really easy to change out the different attachments. For my yard work battery works long until the need recharging. Cons…… Wow this EGO is heavy. Most of the reviews suggested to purchase the shoulder strap, I too would suggest that. Even using the edger with the guide wheel, it became apparent that I should have ordered the strap at the same time. I placed the order for strap before I used this powerful machine. It will be nice when it arrives. Being as it’s the first time I ever used an edger on my property I’m sure I’ll need a new blade soon. It was hit and miss on the sidewalk edging, but future edging will be easier to do! Everything said. I’m really happy with my purchase Today my EGO leaf blower will arrive, that to has a battery and charger.

I replaced my old Husqvarna (Husky) gasoline combo trimmer/edger with this battery Ego model. The two units are similarly priced at $399 for each version. The Husky is gas/oil 2 stroke and obviously, the Ego is battery powered. The price on the Ego moves around like the commodities market - I got it for $399 and 2 days later, it zoomed up to $489 on Amazon. See the attached photos for the two models and attachments side by side. The Ego is the brand new green one and the Husky is the beat up red one. The battery arrived about 1/2 charged and I put the Ego with the edger attachment to work immediately even with the 1/2 charge. The Ego edger had plenty of power for the edging job, it has 2 speeds while the Echo is variable speed. The Ego edging head is heavier than the Husky but it also appears much to be much better quality than the Husky edger head. It's just heavy. I'm a big guy, 6'1", 210-pound lifetime gym rat but I have shoulder problems (3 rotator cuff surgeries) and this unit is uncomfortably heavy. I ordered the shoulder sling and it works well but needed more padding. I reviewed that item separately. My 60-year-old female neighbor who is very fit tried the Ego with the trimmer head attached and it's too heavy for her. Swapping heads with the Ego is simple. It’s a little more touch and go with the Husky and the flex shaft in the Husky model likes to fall out if you flip it around. That’s not an issue with the Ego model. I thought it was ironic that the Ego edger/trimmer contained what appears to be a spark plug wrench - see the other photo. In reality, that wrench has a larger hex wrench on the end of the handle for use with the edger head. Why Ego does not include one single wrench with 2 different sized hex heads is a question for them. The ergonomics of the Ego are good. There does seem to be significant wiggle in the Ego power head handle under power and that makes me wonder how long it will last before it fatigues and possibly cracks or breaks. I have a 1/3 acre lot and after edging around all the concrete and the beds plus trimming 2 times, I've used 20% of the battery. Overall, the build quality of the Ego is absolutely first rate. I will not miss screwing around with gasoline, mixing gas and oil and the spills Husky model. The Husky gas tank is really small, it’s easy to overfill and I was constantly cleaning up small fuel spills. Time will tell how the Ego fares but it’s build quality and performance so far has been 4 stars - minus 1 star for the weight issue. Hope that helps!

Our property backs up to an overgrown canal. This weed eater and the brush cutter attachment is getting it done. It has some heft to it. I recommend getting the shoulder strap.

This combo kit is perfect for a DIYer. The trimmer and edger attachments are extremely easy to swap, and the overall design is incredibly intuitive. Battery life is excellent, allowing me to trim and edge my entire yard without pausing. Powerful and well-built—highly recommended!
