Samsung Tab A7 Gray Wifi 32GB (Old Version)

I replaced a broken Acer Iconia One 7 with this Galaxy A7 Tab and they are in a different league in both build quality and performance. The high definition screen on this Samsung is stunning and the speakers pack a very decent punch. The Atmos surround effect is nice through the quad speakers and the sample music track that comes on the tablet shows the effect off really well. The speakers fire out from the edge so you can use it on any surface without muffling the sound. There's two different app stores on the tablet because it's got both Google Play and Samsung's own app store. In the Samsung one there's a plethora of exclusive offers and free apps for the tablet. Battery life seems great so far too, it is quite large though so takes some time to charge with the supplied adaptor. I may try my Anker Qualcomm certified quick charge adaptor with it next time. There was quite a lot of updates for the tablet to install after setting it up, including an Android 10 security patch for Android released in December 2020. The Samsung Home screen is okay but I wish they'd offer a scrambled PIN login screen like LineageOS features. Also, in landscape mode the login number pad is a little uncomfortably small on the screen. I have tried sending this information to Samsung but won't hold my breath over them acting on it. Material wise, it's an all metal chassis and feels weighty but is comfortable to hold because it is so thin. I have a JML Pill-O-Pad which I have been using it on though and it fits on that perfectly. The only minor annoyance is the MicroSD card slot is next to redundant for anything other than portable media storage (music, video, photo etc. from PC and tablet content backup using Samsung Switch). You cannot format it as internal storage, Samsung have set the tablet up to prevent this. With 32GB (around 10GB of which is used by the operating system) it means you will eventually have to be a little selective over what apps, downloaded movies, books etc. you keep on the tablet.

A great tablet & easy to use once it's set up. I doubt many people of my age would have been able to set this up from new to have it all set up to get the full potential from the tablet. My daughter set it up for me & she stated people with limited knowledge of technology devices would have had difficulties initially setting it up. I think she said there are still some settings she wanted to be able to look at fully, we just didnt have enough time when we were with her. A very nice tablet though & when lockdown ends, I'm looking forward to see how many hotspots it can pick up so it always has access to the Internet, if I can remember how to go to hotspots 😄 Good value for money so far & great battery life. It's ideal for what I want it to do during the day & to be able to talk it to read from it at night. My other devices blinded my wife as they lit the whole room up to have enough brightness so I could still see the screen to read at night.

I bought this a a replacement for my 7 year old Sony Xperia Z Tablet. I'm only interested in general Web browsing and Video streaming from online providers and my own NAS. The A7 handles this perfectly and at a good price. The 4 speakers are great and with Dolby Atmos enabled is quite effective when streaming a movie from Netflix or Amazon Prime. Setup was easy, simply enter your WiFi code and Google account details. Fortunately Samsung now allow you to skip the creation of a Samsung account, which I did as I don't see any benefit nor having a Samsung phone etc to keep synced. The screen seems perfectly good for my needs and as I wasn't interested in games, productivity tools or S Pen support didn't feel the extra £200+ for an Amoled screen on a higher spec Samsung tablet was worth it. In summary if your looking for a Value based tablet the A7 ticks the box. I think the 4 speakers on the A7 are worth the extra cost over the Tab A10. 1
