Good value
I used to do a lot of photography in the days of film. I had a couple single Lens Reflex cameras. I did not adapt to Digital well mainly because of the cost of the lenses. but I came across this Canon Rebel Ti4 and the guy gave it to me, but the lens on it was a 18 - 55 F3.5 lens. So It was difficult getting good wild life shots. I saw this Tamron lens for $200 and wondered what was wrong with it but have had several Tamron lenses in the past so thought I would give it a go. So I will compare it to the original 18 x 55 lens that was on the camera. First thing I noticed. It was heavier. to be expected, you have a lot more lens. So it will be heavier. Then I notice when zoomed in the lens to 18mm it is about the same length as the original 18 x 55. a little bigger diameter, I think the filter size is 64 versus 58 or something like that. I tried same light conditions at different focal lengths. I did not notice aperture loss between the two. meaning at 18 mm and 55 mm I needed and could get the same aperture for both at the same shutter speed. The zoom on the Tamron was tighter. The Canon was easier but the Tamron was not hard to zoom. but considering for the same twist, you are zooming almost 4x the length so I will accept that. it is mechanical advantage. When zoomed out to 200 the Tamron is about 2 x the length of the Canon lens. hence the weight. The Tamron auto focus is super quiet. you do not hear it. Now if you like hearing it too bad, you don't have to worry about the sound of the auto focus scaring away that humming bird with the Tamron. The Tamron has a zoom lock that locks it at 18 mm for storage. which is nice but maybe not necessary as it is pretty tight and does not move on its own anyway. For me I think the lens is great. I have not used it enough to comment on picture quality but for the price and adjust ability I think it is great. not super fast, but not a slouch. I would say why pay more for an every day lens.I think I still would like to get a lens down into the 1.2 f stop area. but they get pricey

Fantastic Prime Lens
I have a Canon SL1 purchased a few years ago. Like most people I take most all my photos outdoors, visit National Parks. I was tired of carrying a bag full of lens and wanted to get my camera bag down to two lens. First let me say I'm not a professional photographer but love taking great photo's. My goal was to find a light all in one lens, close up and zoom. Up to this point my Canon 55-250mm was my prime lens. Then a friend told me about a newer version of Tamron lens, the 18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 Di ll VC. I loved the 18mm for close ups and 200mm would be plenty for zooming in. It weighted 1.19 lbs compared to my Canon 55-250mm at 0.83 lbs. Not much different until I took some photos. I was really impress and pleased with it's performance especially when getting close up photos, sweet. I carry three lens in my bag now, I know I said I wanted only two, my nifty 50 and 24mm pancake lens. If I'm in the city I use my nifty 50 during the daytime and my 24mm in low light conditions. BIG TIP: be sure your firmware on your Canon camera is up to date or the Tamron may struggle communicating with your Canon. Easy and free to update firmware. Call Canon at 1-800-652-2666, they're super.

I love this lens! Where has it been all my life?
First, I am a novice. I am not looking to win and photo awards. I am just doing family life, church life, and social media management photography. That said I have had any Canon Rebel for a few years now and it was ok. But most times not a lot different than my smartphone. This lens blows me away! It is so easy to shoot high-resolution shots and keep them clean, clear and focused at almost any distance. The 18-200mm range is pretty much perfect for any general shot a novice would need to make.Bottomline: If you are a novice and unsure what to buy or what you need to make your camera come alive all over again to you? Buy this, you will be happy.

Really Good Lens
This is a really good lens. The zoom motor is super quiet. My old one died and I needed a new one fast for the Atlantic City Air Show. As you can see from the pics, It has good focus and once it locks on it is really sharp. The only reason I with held a star was it is a little slow in acquiring focus. It take about one second for it to aquire the subject. Not bad for photographing a tree, a big problem when you're trying to get a shot of two jets travelling at each other at 600 MPH. I needed a lens and this was the only one available next day. I am not sorry I purchased this lens.

Stabilization king
I have a lot of very expensive lenses but I bought this because I was going on a trip and needed one lens that I didn't care if it took a beating. I am very pleasantly surprised bu this lens for one reason: the stabilization is crazy good. First off, the images themselves are kind of soft and the colors aren't that great, but that is to be expected of a budget lens. I'm giving this thing 5 stars solely for the the stabilization... holy cow is it good. I was worried that the small aperture would make this lens terrible in low light, but with VC turned on I kid you not I can hand hold a photo at 2 seconds or more if I'm steady. I can't do that on any of my expensive canon glass.

Horrible at anything above 120mm
When is a zoom lens not a zoom lens? When you can't use the full focal length! I know there are drawbacks with zoom lenses but this produces no usable images at full zoom. Even in full light and playing with different aperture settings I did not produce one single acceptable image. Changing ISO....f/stop....shutter speed....nothing. So there is no point in getting a zoom lens if you, in fact, can not use the zoom. Pics in the 18mm-120mm range were usable if you did some sharpening in Lightroom. Everything became way to soft beyond that and Lightroom can only sharpen so much. Horrible chromatic aberrations at zoom as well. I wasn't expecting much....I bought this for my travel dslr. I have a small Canon Sl1 for travel when I don't want to carry my heavy DSLR....the kit lens that came with the SL1 camera takes way better photos. If I could, I would return it but the return window has closed. I opted for 3 stars because I will probably still use it for scenic shots.....just not at a focal length greater than 120mm.
