Hard water or dry environment? Give this a chance.
Wildfire smoke, showering using hard water, indoor heaters/air conditioners, low humidity/dry environment, and the other things we usually don't think about completely destroyed my skin. Itchy inflamed rashes, skin so dry it would flake off the minute anyone looked at me, developing a case of KP, etc. You name it, I have it after a lifetime of healthy skin. I was determined to find products that would restore my once active and healthy lifestyle. Tried everything: lukewarm showers, installed a filter on my showerhead and religiously change it every two months, sulfate free body washes, expensive boutique soaps, high end cosmetic lines, organic hair care and body washes, and every "miracle cream" from brands I never heard of before. Nothing worked. In fact, I'm starting to suspect the high concentration of essential oils in these products exacerbated the problems. All of this testing cost a small fortune; sometimes looking at my order history here depresses me regarding all the money I spent to find anything to have just one day where I wasn't ready to take a piece of sandpaper and rub it all over to get my skin off. If there's one silver lining, I'm probably personally financially responsible for putting the kids of employees at anti-histimine manufacturers through college. It was that bad. After some more research into various skin conditions and the ingredients to alleviate them, CereVe products were constantly recommended by dermatologists because of the inclusion of ceramides in their formulations. Remaining skeptical this could be because the manufacturer significantly spends marketing to dermatologists, for a quarter amount I spent on the last "all natural miracle sulfate free eczema wash infused with holistic oils that will leave me smelling like a tropical beach," I decided to give this body wash the same fair trial I gave all the others. A fair trial is using the product as intended for at least two weeks. Soaps or washes typically are left on the skin for at most a full minute before rinsed off. This isn't enough time interacting with the product to derive any benefit from its ingredients. Instead, I do something akin to a navy shower where I get wet, turn the water off, soap up using a fresh and clean washcloth each time, leave the product on for a few minutes, then rinse off. If at any point I feel itchy, the product is rinsed off and the offending bottle chucked in the garbage because I don't want to accidentally reach for something that's going to make the situation worse. CeraVe Hydrating Body Wash doesn't really foam. It's a cream formulation without any discernible fragrance or scent. It barely smells like anything, and resembles a milky white film on the skin. The only immediate difference to my itchy skin was that it wasn't more itchy or red. After about a week of using the body wash, the inflammation was significantly reduced and the dry patches were smaller. After two weeks, many of these dry patches disappeared and the itching subsided to the point where I forgot to take anti-histimines for two days. The KP didn't disappear from my arms, but they looked way less red and less noticeable than before, enough to prompt me to purchase the CeraVe body lotion with ceramides and sacylic acid to test for its effectiveness on that area. I don't think this is a miracle body wash, but it's definitely something that doesn't make a skin condition worse. It's incredibly moisturizing to the point where if I forgot to apply body lotion, I don't pay dearly with adverse skin reactions or increased itching. It feels like it's allowing my skin to heal from all the trauma I put it through, and it's definitely on my repurchase list. And foamy bubbles or smelling like passion fruit isn't the criteria for a body wash for me anymore.

Very nice!
I love CeraVe body lotions so naturally when I wanted an unscented body wash I turned to this brand as well. For the positives I found it very moisturizing and it seems to work well with my body chemistry. Also, didn’t have an issue with the bottle as many have had. For the negatives the only one I have is the scent but I can work with it. I know it’s “unscented” but that we know just means no fragrance added but the ingredients in this has a very distinct smell. I want to call it clinical but it’s not quite that, it’s sort of metallic. I was worried about it at first but the smell appears to be more prominent in the bottle and once you dispense the product and start to work it in the scent fades. Like I said it works well with my body chemistry so by the time I get out of the shower it’s gone and I smell and feel clean yet moisturized. The product comes out in a thick cream like consistency that gives a decent foam but nothing too bubbly and stripping. This is great for my every day body wash when I don’t want a scent and just want a clean canvas to spray a mist or perfume on. I will be purchasing again. Edit: After using this from some time and buying a second bottle all my positives stand but the negative I have regarding the scent faded. It turns out the first bottle I bought likely had a more prominent smell. Even so after you open a new bottle and use it a couple times the clinical scent disappears all together and you’re left with a product that does a great job cleansing and moisturizing your skin. I love it so much I changed my review from 4 to 5 stars. Some things take time to appreciate I guess.

great wash, terrible packaging, try the bar instead
I quickly learned that this is wash is not about working up a good lather, and a good lather isn't necessary for good cleaning. I can put a dollop the size of a quarter in my hand, rub my hands together, and spread it over the entire moderately hairy top front of my body, which thins it out and makes it easier to wash off. It's great for softening my beard stubble before shaving. It's very smooth, slippery stuff, which some people may not like, and it takes more effort to rinse off, but it works for me. But the bottle is really bad. The wash is so thick that it's not easy to get it out of the bottle, especially as there becomes less and less left - from the beginning I have to store the bottle upside down in the shower, and even then it doesn't come out readily. Eventually it gets to the point where I have to shake it hard to get anything out. The plastic is so hard that it doesn't expand outward after you squeeze it, so before I put it back on the shower shelf, I get more air into the bottle by opening the spout and squeezing the very inflexible plastic and then closing the spout - that kind of fills the bottle out somewhat to make it a little easier to squeeze. And eventually you can't get anything out at all even though you can tell there's quite a bit left, like 1/3 or 1/4. Then I have to twist off the cap, add water and shake - which of course makes it more liquid so more comes out than you might want, though it still works to wash yourself. Seems like a huge amount of work to get the stuff out of there - it's like whoever designed this bottle didn't try to actually use it. The obvious thing to do would make it a pump - though that wouldn't get it all out either, it's just too thick, you'd still end up having to take off the cap and add water. Look how much I was able to write just about a plastic bottle! That shows how ridiculous it is - CeraVe should get a clue from all these comments saying the same thing. The best option is the bar - the same stuff, far easier to use, you can use it all - though it's much slipperier than the usual bar of soap so you'd better have enough room in your shower to bend down to pick it up off the floor. We have both bottle and bar in the shower, and you develop a system of what method to use where and how to get the stuff out of the bottle and how to not drop the bar and so on - it's like the rocket science of washing yourself, and I wouldn't bother if I didn't like the results so well.
