Nice
Nice, small cardio ballet. Easy to replace handle if you don’t like the shape.

Nice small maul
Was just what I needed. Needed to tap on some small chisels in tight corners. Is only 8 ozs, so isn't real aggressive..as for the handle finish, mine is fine, saw no reason to sand and refinish it as mentioned in so other reviews. As for the threads, I hand tightened them, have had no problems with the head backing off. But have permarex if it becomes an issue..over all, very pleased with this purchase.

Nice.
Pretty nice. Small enough to fit into the somewhat-oversized tool roll I use for my carving chisels. Quality is fine. About a simple a tool as it gets. The one thing that annoys me is that grotesque "SHOP FOX" stenciled across the crown in black letters. I took some abrasive paper and sanded that garbage off. Wouldn't have minded a nice engraved logo. Used to be a time when companies took great care that their branding devices (logos, letting, etc) were aesthetically pleasing.Of course, I guess that's the age we live in- where one factory in China makes something and 100 different 'wholesalers' rebrand it with their own name for retail sale. As such, the sum effort of their brand is black letters hastily stenciled across whatever space is available.Still, picky rant aside, you won't regret buying this. Holds well in the hand, strikes well. I don't mind buying simple stuff from the Orient (hammers, tool trays, etc). If any precision is involved, I generally stuck with brands of known quality standards.

Sweet.
Both the 8 and 12 ounce versions of these are really nice, particularly for the price. Got these for carving and fine chisel work where I plan to choke up on the head and use it to rap the chisel butts with a lot of control. They work great for my working style. The handles on mine were unfinished, which is fine. Saves me having to scrape them down for a finish I like. If that bothers you, beware. Also, these are small heads with very short handles. I don't know if they would satisfy someone looking to "swing" it like standard size mallets and hammers. You won't be carving any totem poles from logs with these. For me, fit and "finish" are fine and I recommend them.

Get it
I use this for stained glass and it's the only hammer you need. You don't have to look at it first to see what side you are using or to line up. Time saver and very well made.

Better than expected!
It’s a decent little toy with an okay handle. Maybe they have improved over the years based on old reviews. And yes, gonna need some locktite!!! And a little more 0000 steel wool and some lighter fluid and no more shop fox!

I use it as a drop hammer with the flat surface for striking and I can control the force with good precision. A mallet/hammer us
I am going to go out out a limb here and suggest most are using this wrong. As a mallet with such a short handle and using the curved surface as a striking edge it is always going to have off axis blows. I use it as a drop hammer with the flat surface for striking and I can control the force with good precision. A mallet/hammer uses the handle length as a force multiplier, I do not think was ever the intent for this tool. Try it this way and I think you will appreciate a totally different tool.

Defective item
One of the three items I received is defective. There is a noticeable crack in the handle. The coating of the timber handle is unfinished. Most part of the handle are seen in raw state.I would like to have this item either replaced or refund.

Great Product
Great weight for leather working, the shipping was fast and recieved it in a reasonable time! Currently working on a project using heavyweight cowhide, and it definitely is a huge help. No scratches on head of the mallet so far! Weight of the mallet is light, so it is easy to control!
