Wired is flawless, but why has wireless stopped working properly
Seems like a standard AUX cable, but it got rid of interference between the soundbar and the bass module. My only gripe is why has the distortion all of a sudden started with what should be wireless?

Wired or wireless?
Bose soundbars don't come with this cable and you don't need it but it's actually handy if there's any cut-offs from the bass. It can be frustrating when you have devices interrupting the connection between the soundbar and the bass module. This fixes that issue. Really long cable tho. Get some cable ties to set it to the correct size.
