It tells the story of two lovers, Prem (Salman Khan) and Nisha (Madhuri Dixit). Their older siblings, Rajesh and Pooja get married. After Pooja has her baby, the elders decide to get Prem married with a girl like Pooja. Prem and Nisha slowly fall in love with each other. Prem tells his sister-in-law, Nisha's older sister, Pooja, that he loves Nisha. Pooja binds the two with her blessings and a necklace. Before Pooja can tell anyone the good news, she falls down the stairs and dies. Everyone feels they lost their life after Pooja dies, because she had a magic touch that even the dog, Tuffy, notices. Rajesh finds life hard without Pooja and he finds it especially hard to raise their son. The parents decide to get Rajesh married to Nisha so that he won't feel so lonely and his son will get a mother. Nisha unknowingly accepts because she thinks that she is going to marry Prem. When she finds out she is marrying Rajesh, the two lovers decide to sacrifice their love for Rejesh's happiness. The servant that Pooja treated like a brother prays to God to stop the wedding and have Prem and Nisha get married. The dog decides to do something and takes the necklace Pooja gave to Nisha to wear to her wedding with Prem. Nisha writes a note saying that she is giving Pooja's bind back to Prem. The dog takes the necklace and note and instead of giving it to Prem, he gives to Rajesh. Rajesh finds out that Nisha and Prem love each other and steps aside so that his younger brother can marry Nisha. They live happily ever after.

I'm a Japanese learning India.I cried at the end.I thought 200 minutes is too long when I started watching it.But, at the end, I've understood you need it to explain how a marriage has happened. The marriage, this movie, entertainment like this.To me this is one of beautiful points of India.Salman Khan-san and Madhuri Dixit-san.Good job!

A classic on blu-ray with a huge improvement over the dvd!
I am not going to review the movie, which is one of the biggest blockbusters of all time. The disc released by Ultra is of a very good quality. It's the best the movie has looked or probably will ever look. I was stunned. I understand the negative reviews for the blu-ray, but this is a movie from 1994 and most of it is shot indoors on sets. As someone who has seen the movie on Ultra vhs and vcd, Moserbaer dvd and zee cinema, I truly was impressed to see such a huge improvement. Ultra has done a great job of not using any distracting digital tinkering and maintaining film-like quality. It does look a little soft, but that appears to be inherent to the source. The DTS HD-MA 5.1 is also good. The dialogues are clear and the surrounds are used in the songs and background music. For some strange reason, the Dolby Digital 5.1 track is louder, but not necessarily better. There are English subtitles. There are no extras. There was a long making of documentary and deleted scenes on the Ultra dvd which should have been ported over. The blu-ray includes the longer 206 minute version with 2 extra songs and 1 extended song. There is the omnipresent Ultra logo watermark on the bottom right side, which should not have been there. But that is one thing Ultra and Shemaroo will never change.A 4k or 8k restoration would surely make the movie look better, but considering the dismal number of pre-2000 Indian movies released on blu-ray, it seems virtually impossible. Recommended!

Must have it!
For Bollywood lovers, a milestone movie, lively and colourful and full of love and family values; even for those who don't belong to indian culture, it's a great movie all the same, because of its artistic and technical level, both referring to the actors performances and the music and dance numbers, with many a tunes that will stay with you for a long time.
