Good starting place
This book was full of info that is great for someone who is just getting ready to start prepping or preparing to be self-reliant. I had been thinking about starting prepping but really did not have an idea of where to start. This book gives me enough info to know where I want to get started without overwhelming me with too many specifics. If you are looking for a highly detailed book, this may not be the book for you. If you need to get general info and organize your thoughts, this book will do nicely.

Absolutely great "starter" guide to anyone nervous about "just in time" stocking and delivery...for whatever reason.
I am an ex-Airborne Infantry grunt and ER and Family Practice doc with a decades long interest in disaster preparation. I have read and/or have hundreds of books on this topic and I can't believe I just found this short but superb book! This is good material down to the excellent suggested reading and "other resources." I especially liked his recommendation to attend a seminar with the Wilderness Medical Institute. On a personal note, I took my fiancée, a Mechanical Engineer, to a Wilderness Medical Society seminar and she loved it and can't wait for me to choke so she can try an emergent cricothyroidotomy! OMG, I muffle even a small cough now. The chapters on 1) Water, 2) Food, 3) First Aid, 4) Home Security & Personal Defense, 5) Heating, Cooling & Energy Needs and 6) Hygiene & Sanitation are the best distillation of my 20+ years of research and application I have ever found. I have minor quibbles (Stabil only preserves your gasoline 6-12 months and propane stores for years, maybe decades.) but he even taught this old dog some new tricks. No spoiler here but see recommendations for staying cool in Phoenix pre-air conditioning or the sweet old lady who had survived several hurricanes, "I am not recommending anything. I'm just saying...." :) p.s. I have eaten my share of MREs and I give his food advice 6 stars.

The only guide you'll need to be prepared for an emergency!
This book is perfect for everyday people like me. It's easy to read and the author interjects a sense of humor along the way which really helps! I like that he gives specific examples of the products he recommends and shows pictures, which also helps. I'm not a survivalist; I'm just an everyday person looking for ways to be prepared should an emergency occur. With the recent tornadoes and weather issues, along with the scare of what I would do should the power go out for an extended time, this book is direct and extremely helpful. The author mentions things that had never occurred to me, should a hurricane hit or power go out. He walks you through scenarios and offers basic everyday items you can use. An excellent guide on how to be prepared without investing a lot of money. I have recommended this book to several of my friends and they have started using some of these ideas in their daily lives to help them be ready should something happen. I'm a nurse in an urban hospital and some of the ideas he mentions for first aid were remarkable and often not known, even to medical people. I especially like the summary at the end of each chapter with a review of suggested items. If you only do one thing to prepare for a disaster, you should get this book. I've gotten one for each of my kids to keep in their emergency kits.

Partial information
There are some good suggestions here and product sources are given but as far as preparation goes you will likely need much more comprehensive information than this book provides. There is not a whole lot of information about preparedness, mostly ideas of what you may need and some guidance as to where you can buy products. The book is small with large print and likely will not fulfill your needs in my opinion. It may however deserve a place in your library as a limited addition to your knowledge.

Looks flimsy but packed with information
I almost passed this one up, but got it due to other reviews. That said, it was not even near the top of my reading list - but then I read Prepper's Instruction Manual: 50 Steps and The Prepper's Pocket Guide: 101 Easy Things and got quickly frustrated. While those books are an easy read, they are light on information. That is, my wife was trying to make a plan for stocking up on food. One of those books had two chapters devoted to the subject, that basically said "keep track of everything you eat for a month and buy that". Now, I'm oversimplifying, but she was frustrated and picked up this book - which gave detailed information on how much people eat and provided suggestions on what to store and how to get started, while also giving the same advice as the other books. In other words, this book keeps it concise and gets right to it and says what needs to be said without any fluff. So, it may look like a little pamphlet - but it packs an encyclopedia of helpful knowledge. That said, the other books are not bad, and I do use teh tips in those as well - but this book has become the go to book.

Schade

Very basic book and small most of the stuff in it I have known for a long time.

For the price of this 'book' I was expecting more, as is a lightweight booklet that appears to be print on demand, hence lower quality binding, so not a book per se.
