Just Buy It
This review is for the 14" × 6.5" model, as well as the 13" × 7". Both drums feel solid, and weighty, giving me the impression that they're well crafted, and not just cheaply manufactured, basic designs. These drums are a great choice for someone who isn't exactly happy with the stock snare that came with their kit, and wants to try something new. And, being that they're black, they'll fit in with just about any setup, no matter the color/finish/wrap of the rest of your kit. They're also great for if you're just looking to add to your sound pallette. My biggest complaint is the throw-off for the snare wires. While it's solid, and functions great, it's big, bulky, and sticks out pretty far from the shell. Making fitting the drum into a bag/case an arduous task.I also wish this model came in a 14" × 8" option, but alas, it does not.Overall, really good product, and I highly recommend.ADDITIONSYes, the stock heads that come with these drums are garbage, that shouldn't be surprising to anyone. It's just like buying shoes; No matter how nice they are, you're going to have to add your own insoles for maximum comfort, and wearability. It's no different with drums. Yes, that means you're probably going to have to drop at least another $45 - $60, depending on what you want. What I use (both drums):Batter Head: Evans HD DryResonant Head: Evans Snare Side 500Snare Wires: Puresound 30 strandThe result? The best sounding snare drums you'll ever hear.

just buy it
This snare is awesome at all dymanic levels, you can low for a fat sound even tune up tight for a nice snappy snare reponse and also alot of pop and depth in the snare,

Great snare
This is a great snare indeed. Buying a snare if the same characteristics in any other brand would cost probably the double amount of money.Just put on it good drum heads and you're ready to go. Good lugs allow the drumheads to keep the tension firm. Good rims, even if they are not die-cast they are heavy enough to guarantee good rimshots. Many people don't like the wax finish, but I do. The 10 Plies of maple are there and make this snare sound deep and warm.My only complaint is about the butt plate, which looks and feel pretty cheap. All in all the Black Wax 6.5" is a great item and not expensive at all.

You get what you pay for
The stock head busted first time playing. It arrived completely out of tune, so of course I had to tune it prior to playing, which I'm highly proficient at since I've been playing drums for over 20 years. The shell is not finished, meaning there was never a single piece of sand paper applied to this thing. The sound was nice I must say, it has exactly the gentle, throaty resonance that I waslooking for. The DW snare throw on it is great. Bottom head hasn't broke (yet). I expected to upgrade the heads anyway, wish I didn't have to sand the thing, but overall I'm pleased with the drum. Once I get the heads replaced it will be very nice for the price.

This snare makes me want to be a better drummer
I've had a few snares that needed help to sound decent. This PDP by DW maple snare is a welcome replacement.I put a Remo coated center for head on and tuned both heads easily. My kit is a 7 piece PDP X7 maple and this snare is a perfect compliment. There were certain things I felt I struggled to do on my old snares, but it is easy with this snare. The magnetic wire flip off is brilliant and a pleasure after dealing with old school types. The sound of the snare is really impressive. It is articulate and has clear voicings from the rim's edge with good tonal variations to a solid and powerful strike or roll on the center of the head. With the wires off, it sings beautifully. I live in the Pacific Northwest, so temp and air pressure changes are frequent, yet these fine threaded rim lugs need minimal adjustments.Local shops are selling used snares for more than what this new snare costs. Buyer beware. This snare is a steal. Pro level quality for entry level price.

No mounting bracket
This drum was supposed to have a mounting bracket on it but it does not. There's no way to set it up to play it. A snare stand is too big and tall. So I had to order the bracket so I can put it on myself. The packaging for the bracket was cut open. This has been a horrible experience. You charged me way too much money for an inferior product. I'll never buy any musical equipment from Amazon ever again. I'll stick with Sweetwater.

Nice item.! But needs better packaging.!
I like the product, but the packaging was very careless and scant.! I didn't appreciate that because it could have easily been damaged. A bit more thought and care should go into packaging a sensitive item such as this.
