Paul McCartney: Ecce Cor Meum [DVD]

I must admit I was never a Beatles fan, but I am certainly a Paul McCartney fan now. Ecce Cor Meum is fantastic. The melodies soar, the words inspire, and the total work lifts the spirit. Beautiful voices, wonderful music in a perfect setting. I have already watched this twice and am looking forward to my next viewing.A wonderful contribution to any classical contemporary collection. Give it a try. I don't think you'll be unhapy with this music.

Incredible! I just couldn't imagine that young boy from the '60s coming up with something so... singular! I was thrilled as I listened to every note of this work.

This will make you cry. Paul has a talent, to write classical music, that most people don't know. So much love is placed in every note of this beautiful album.

it's a shame more people have not been exposed to this MASTERPIECE. i am a bit of a classical lover, and this piece will take you tothe heavens. i believe it is one of the greatest chorals ever written, and that 100 years from now, music lovers will still appreciate this triumphof a piece. the DVD is absolutely a wonderful experience...as is Kate Royal. i am also a major Macca fan and enjoy his other music as well.simply put....this is in a class of itself....and by far, Macca's best classical piece...nothing comes close.

I am torn as to whether to give this 4 or 5 stars. My reason being, I was there in person at this performance (and am even shown on this DVD), and therefore I know that there was a big part of the show missed off from the DVD.Before the performance of the title piece Ecce Cor Meum, there were classical interpretations of many of Paul McCartney's songs for his late wife Linda, played and sung. These were poignant and moving and I was really looking forward to seeing them on the disc and reliving the magic of that evening.But from the perspective of someone who was not there, you would not know that this section had been omitted from the DVD, and would, I assume, just give your opinion based on what you can see on the disc, and this is what I shall do.This piece was written over the space of about 8 years, started while Linda was still alive, and then delayed while Paul grieved and during another chapter of his life. When this came to an end, Paul picked up where he left off and completed this classical masterpiece which ended up winning a Classical Brit award.The claim on the DVD that this is the world premiere performance is slightly untrue. It was perfomed in Magdalen in Oxford in 2001 or 2002, although this is probably the first public performance of the finished piece.Kate Royal as the lead soprano does the piece a massive credit; she conveys the emotions behind it with beauty, grace and style. I am not a big classical music buff but I thoroughly enjoyed the show and I love to relive it while watching this DVD.The disc has been very well put together and audio quality is excellent. A must for any fans of Paul McCartney and/or classical music per se.
