Reef Octopus Classic 152-S Protein Skimmer

This is my favorite skimmer yet, and I have had several (most of them reef octopus) I run this on my 140 gallon mixed reef, and I have been happy since the minute installed it. Took me all of about 5 minutes to put it together after a quick rinse, and install it in my system. My original skimmer was no longer working properly, I was leaving town the very next day, so I wasn’t sure how the break in was going to go. I set the water level at about 7-8” (just under the outlet tube) And it had a perfect head of foam by the next day. Upon talking with my tanksitter, it was functioning perfectly and by the end of the first week, I had a few inches of dark brown skimmate! No break in period at all! Months later still loving it. I haven’t had any overflows due to dosing/feeding.

Awesome skimmer! This was my first purchase of a skimmer, after reading many reviews, and researching, I thought this was the best suitable skimmer for my application. After approximately a two week break in period, the skimmer begin pulling out copious amounts of waste. Very happy with its performance!

I bought this skimmer to replace a Aquamaxx FC-180 that stopped making foam and was never able to dial in correctly. I run this on a 85 gallon tank with 20 gallon trigger sump, and it fit easily. This Reef Octo skimmer was a little more expensive than other skimmers I was looking at. But I'm glad I pulled the trigger and purchased this item, it was worth the money. I have it set in 8"-9" water level and I had it dialed in within minutes. After one day it was already foaming and skimming fish dung. And one other thing I was not expecting, is that you cannot hear it running. It does not go into detail on how to use it, but it does give basic steps that I followed and it worked fine. I wished I would have purchased the Reef Ocotopus brand when I first started this hobby. You live and learn!

After 6 weeks the unit started to hum. No return possible. Disappointing

This protine skimmer gets the job done!

I really like this skimmer. It started pulling grime out the very first day. Maybe my tank was super nasty but I didn’t have a break-in period at all. My problem with it is that it really doesn’t have any instructions with it. It has the basic picture “how to put it together” instructions but nothing on how to operate or adjust it. Had to You Tube to figure that out. And even that was somewhat difficult. It took me awhile to get it adjusted right. But it was always pulling green out of my water.

I have a 75G tank. After purchasing this product, putting it together. Then placing it in my 30g sump it went to work. After 2 days I could see the dark green skimate that was removed from my tank. I'm extremely happy with this product thus far. I would recommend this product to a friend.
