I did not get sick) and the water didn't taste bad either. I'm definitely more satisfied with this than ...
Used them for the first time a couple weeks ago while on a weekend hike. First water source was a creek, but the only source I could find for the second night was stagnant pool. Strained water through a homemade millbank bag first both times to get it mostly clear, then used the tablets as directed. Seemed effective at purification (i.e. I did not get sick) and the water didn't taste bad either. I'm definitely more satisfied with this than I would have been with the pump filters my friends had with them, but I don't think I'd use them alone without a millbank bag or some other pre-filter for the water.Out of morbid curiosity, I kept one of my leftover water bottles laying around for about a week with the purified water in it. It was still as clear as when I filled it and taste about the same when I took a swig of it. I don't know if that actually says anything positive about the tablets, but it was reassuring to me.

expiration date of sept 2022
9/4/2018 haven't used them yet, so FOUR stars. BUT the expiration date on these is SEPT 2022. exp 4 years, not 5 as advertised so MINUS ONE MORE STAR.update : 9/7/2018 got replacement today and the expiration date AGAIN is sept 2022 FOUR YEARS not FIVE AS ADVERTISED.NOT worth the trouble. Why don't they lower the price another $1 to $4 because $1 is how much I am losing by having this last only 4 years. Is anybody getting the stuff that is good for 5 years ?

Old stock
The product has a 5 year shelf life, mine expires in 3 yr and 1 month. Disappointed that they are sending old stock.

Prepping Essential
I'm a big fan of being prepared. When it comes to building a good bug-out-bag (BOB), thinking about drinking water is first priority. So in addition to having a container for water storage, you need a method of purification. I ALWAYS keep 100/pack of Aquatabs in every BOB I own. Sometimes you don't have the time for standard filtration methods (i.e. Lifestraw - which I also keep in the BOB) and the Aquatabs are ideal for the fill and run type of situation. It will make virtually any water (save those with chemical pollution) drinkable. The end product isn't overly "treated" tasting either. No iodine or chlorine taste/smell.I had no issue with my expiration dates, they had close of 5 years on them. For the price, it's an essential to have in your prepping arsenal.

Comes in very handy for hiking.
Used this on my trek in Nepal (Mar 29 - Apr 8). Used 1 tablet in a 1 liter bottle of local (clear) water. Worked great. Water tasted fine and so avoided having to buy water (and create plastic waste) as we trekked.

YOUR survival is YOUR responsibility.
I am compiling a Bug Out Bag [BOB] for every family car. I included these as a key component. My thoughts: expecting [or just hoping] that others will come to your rescue during a natural disaster like flood, hurricane, or a forest fire, or even just a stranded auto ... is not enough. YOUR survival is YOUR responsibility. While putting these BOB's in every car might not be the best location, having them ready is the first step, knowing where they are located is the second step. Hint: I actually plan to store each in a water-resistant plastic ammo box ["Plano"], that includes all items ... plus a small backpack for easy "no hands" carrying.Dave@Texas

Almost outdated when you get them
Not very happy with these. With a shelf life of only 5 years, you would expect to receive something that is not already 3 years old. This is Feb of 2014 and the manufacture date on the ones I received are June of 2011. Won't be buying them from here again.Update: Contacted the seller and they promptly issued a full refund. Hope they check the dates on stuff like this before they ship it out. Customer service was all that could be expected.

Great for hiking and camping
Better to be safe than sorry. Bought these for hiking/camping emergencies in the instance that one runs out of clean packaged water.Tried one beforehand at home, easy to use. Saw no difference in the taste of the water itself. These tablets in a 100 pack will purify a lot of water.

09/2022 expiry, purchased 01/19
The Aquatabs website says these have a 5 year shelf life, meaning mine have been sitting in a warehouse for over 2 years. I know these tabs will last longer than the quoted 5, but they will lose efficiency. If these are for an emergency kit, look elsewhere to get some fresher ones.

I didn't get sick so must be good
Used it on a back country camp trip. This works as it is suppose to, but i wouldn't recommend it as your only source to clean your drinking water. You will still need to filter your water for gunk and other goodies that come from natural sources of water. in addition, waiting for your water is actually a lot harder than it sounds, as you still have to wait for 30-40 mins for the water to be drinkable. The only issue I have with this product in particular is that the packaging is not water resistant. The pills are affected by humidity and damp cloth if you happen to get wet in the wild. Making the pills useless after long exposure to humidity.

Wrong expired date information left by seller
Product is ok, BUT...I bought this was based on the answer left by the seller (Andrew Moorey, Co-Founder and CEO, Global Hydration / Elua) in Q&A ; he said they only sell with a minimum 4 years of remaining shelf life... I placed order in Jan 2020, but the item's expired date I received is Jan 2023, ONLY 3 years...Very disappointed!!

Great Purchase
We bought these for a camping trip we did (5 days back country camping). The most annoying part was when I didn't have them (which made no sense because they're small and light and perfect for this type of thing). 100% will buy again - these are the best price to quantity I found and they didn't leave any odd tastes/colors or anything.

Always better to be safe than sorry
I have had no issues with this product, I purchased this for a 45km run as I was going into 'bear country' and thought that I might need some water purification tablets in case I run into a hot day and needed some water. Thankfully it was a mild day and I didn't even use all the water that I stored on me.However, I did try a tablet with a bottle of water and didn't see a large taste difference.

They’re handy and they work good, no aftertaste really
The tabs work really well, I always have some with me whenever I go camping, hiking, fishing or hunting. I bought a proper sized collapsible water bottle so I know exactly how much water I have for the dosage. Couldn’t ask for any better! Has no weird crappy aftertaste that I have noticed.

Good investment.
These tablets were a great back up to my water purification bottle. There was no noticeable taste when I used it for the non potable water in Cuba and Mexico. The only criticisms I have are what was already mentioned by another reviewer. Information on what ratio of water to fill could have been on the individual pill package, and the general directions on the little slips of paper could have been better written and bigger crisp font. I also agree that the ratio per pill could have been rethinked as one pill per 750 ml(1/5 of a gallon) is not a common liquid amount in water bottles, commercial or reusable ones. I just made sure I had a 1 L bottle with me, made an estimate of how much 3/4 of that would be and then poured the clean water afterwards into my smaller water bottles. The tablets were good value for the money, and took up no room in my travel bags so made them worth the purchase. Plus I found the pricing cheaper than buying them in the outdoor stores here that offered them.

No aftertaste
Aquatabs has always been included in my travel kit whenever I visit countries that has a drinking water compromised. It doesn't leave a bitter aftertaste unlike other brands and water taste fresher, ease of use and help the environment by eliminating bottled water.

Perfect for our trek in Nepal!
We used these to purify water during a six day trek in Nepal. They are SUPER easy to use, and dissolve quickly in water. After about 30 minutes, we had fresh and clean water every time. They do have a bit of a chlorine-y smell, which I wasn't initially expecting, but no strange taste and I got very used to the scent over time. Awesome product, and you get more than enough for the price.

Does what it's supposed to do.
Guess it works if I didn't get sick on a Perú trip.It tastes a little like chlorine, which could be annoying for some.Plus you need to shake the water for 10 minutes, then wait 30-40 minutes after that before drinking. A little inconvenient if you don't prepare it beforehand.

smaller than expected
Not sure what size I was expecting....these are about half the size of a tic tac. Doesn't affect it in anyway...just thought I got less than 100 when I opened the box haha. Great value will order again!

Add to your emergency kit
I have not tried these yet as I bought them for my emergency kit but I think everyone should have these to make clean water if you are hiking or if disaster strikes.

I feel I lost out on a year as product only good for 4 yrs
I haven’t heard back about my earlier concerns. The tabs have a shelf life of 5 years, unfortunately the tabs sent to me have an expiry date of Oct/22.
