I am thrilled with this purchase!
I've always enjoyed foreign films and dramas. Unfortunately sometimes they only exist in their own region coding. I recently purchased a dvd set from Thailand and really wanted to watch it on my flat screen. This dvd player did the job with no problem. I plugged it into the outlet and hooked the back into an already existing HDMI cord and it played my dvd's right out of the box.The up-scaling is perfect (with HDMI cord) and the subtitles work flawlessly. Very light unit, small profile, fair price, nice clean design and works as advertised. It comes with a basic and functional remote also HDMI and analog video cords. There is also a “memory” feature you can toggle on and off if you want it to start playing from its last point. Which was useful to me when watching a tv series. I HIGHLY RECOMEND THIS UNIT!!Pro Tip: When I first hit play I was a little disappointed with the video quality. I used the remote to change settings which out of the box were set to 480 to 1080p. All of a sudden the dvd is CRYSTAL CLEAR and looks HD.

Great Little DVD Player
I don't normally take the time to write reviews, but this little player deserves a very good one. I needed to produce some PAL DVDs for users in Europe. While I could author a PAL DVD, I had no way to test it. I bought this DVD player and was very happy with its performance. It will play both NTSC DVDs and PAL DVDs and output them in either format. Normally it will output what the connected monitor wants, but there is an N/P button on the included Remote that allows you to cycle through NTSC, PAL and Auto settings. I was also pleasantly surprised to find that my Samsung Smart TV would display a PAL video signal (720 X 576) when I selected PAL as the DVD player output. The picture actually looked better in PAL using a PAL DVD disk as PAL uses 576 horizontal lines (at 50 scans per second) versus the 480 horizontal lines (at 60 scans per second) that NTSC uses. I verified that the TV was actually in PAL mode by using the TV remote control's Info button to display its resolution. I had also purchased a PAL DVD while in Russia and was finally able to play it here in the US.

Very good value
Packaging: it came in a professional retail box, and included both HDMI and RCA cables, as well as a very sophisticated remote control.Set up: easy breezyFunctionality: loaded fast - almost immediately the DVD started playing; I purposely left it on pause and walked away for 45 minutes to find it had shut off and my TV did too. So good from an energy-saving perspective, but not sure how long you can keep it on pause and come back to it. I'll keep testing that out. It's very lightweight and compact with minimal buttons. The remote control on the other hand has WAY TOO MANY buttons, and the play/pause/forward/reverse is at the very bottom which seems strange to me, as that would be the primary functionality and use for this DVD player.Overall, I'm happy with the purchase.

Good Bargain!
I’m very very pleased with this DVD player. The reason I bought it is because it said multi regional and I enjoy movies/shows from the BBC. It was extremely easy to set up (pugged in with the included cord, change the input on the television, and I’m literally watching a DVD on it now- started 10 mins ago taking it out of the box and setting up) I will say- it does not come with batteries for the remote so you need 2 AAA batteries and you will probably need an extension cord because the plug in cord is not very long. It also does come with a HDMI cord but I didn’t need it!I feel like I got a really good deal on a great player for a good price. If you watch a lot of multi regional dvds, this is for you. If not, you can buy a regular old DVD player from Walmart.

Closed Captions on older DVD's, like Foyle's War displayed!!!
I am very hard of hearing and depend on closed captions (CC)/subtitles to understand what is going on. With the change to High Definition TV, we lost the ability to display closed captions (CC). I have many older DVD's that have CC but with my HD TV, the CC's were not displayed, so I could no longer understand them.I have tried many solutions, such as playing them through an old laptop with analog connections to my HD TV, but this is cumbersome. Finally, I found the Majority Scholar DVD player. I was attracted to this DVD player because you could turn on CC with a button on the remote. It came with all the different cables I needed to attach to my TV. Plus, it could play DVD's from ALL regions around the World. This player hooked up easily, came with a printed manual, and included everything I needed to make the connection. You can also download the PDF manual if you wish. There is also excellent company support if you need it.This DVD player instantly played all my old DVD's with Captions or subtitles displayed. I do have two DVD player connected to my HD TV now. One for Blu-Ray discs and this one for all other DVD's. I do have some Blu-Ray discs that I wish to play again that can only be displayed on a Bu-Ray disc player. However, the Majority Scholar DVD player is smaller and lighter than my Blu-Ray player. So, it doesn't take up much space.A bonus for me was finding the British version of the series "All Passion Spent" which comes with English subtitles made for Region 2. The USA version of this series (Region 1) and does not have English subtitles or CC. Therefore, I needed a DVD player that could play Region 2 DVD's (BTW, many USA DVD players only play DVD's for Region 1). So, I ordered this DVD through Amazon and played it in my Majority Scholar DVD player and it displayed the English subtitles perfectly. I can also play the Foyle's War DVD series and read the closed captions on my HDThis DVD player is quite simple to use. How wonderful!

Still works !!!
Sadly, DVD's are becoming obselete but when I want to watch a classic, I've got the toy for the job. I still own a few dozen DVD's that need review periodically.
