What type of battery does it take?

Answer: DR 2032 or CR 2032. This battery is a 3V Lithium Coin battery. A single battery will power the fit meter. DR indicates the battery was made by Duracell. The CR indicates the battery is an off-brand.

Does the wii fit reset the steps without connecting to the wii u fit game?

After it is set up with your Mii, time and date. It will zero out each night. It will keep the steps in memory till it is transferred to the Wii Fit U software on the console. You don't need to know your stride to set it up. It comes up with this info from your Mii profile. I transfer my steps about once a week. I do play the walking challenge and have walked around London, NY, and Chicago. Also it keeps track of up and down so I have done the the Grand Canyon and climbed Mt Everest. Hope this helps.
