More in an airbrush than I'll probably ever need.
I purchased this airbrush mainly for the purposes of doing detail work on plastic model kits. It turns out to actually be overkill for that task, as compared to the Iwata HP-CS I typically use, the lines from this brush are extraordinarily fine and clean despite the tiny width. Using this Sotar I have been able to duplicate the look of some texture decals with good success as well. 15-20psi is all I needed for various types of paints including Vallejo Model-Air, thinned Tamiya Acrylic and Vallejo Game Color, and Testors enamels. I think pretty much any paint that has a fine enough pigment (or can be thinned to be similar to such) can go through this system without problem. I will note, despite thinning them a lot, and using various combinations of thinner and retarder medium, I did have lots of "spatter" problems with Humbrol Acrylics. I think maybe the pigment of those is just not "fine" enough for Sotar regardless of thinned consistency. The included alternative needle/cap combo might remedy this, but I didn't try it yet. A word on the issue of authenticity of the product. I have looked over the package and the unit as carefully as I think anyone can expect and I find no sign that this is a "knockoff" product; so don't let the low price fool you. My unit came with the foam cutout box and the extra needle with wrench and extra crown cap. Also included were the warranty registration card addressed to Badger and the assembler signature page with parts list that other reviews have mentioned. It's quite possible these units are refurbished, however; as I did find some small dried paint inside the cup. Also the trigger action and spring needed a couple of drops of oil. After that, everything was smooth and ready to go.

Superb product
Buying a Badger product is a zero risk exercise. The product performs superbly and is built to last. I own several airbrushes from most of the leading airbrush manufacturers and this Sotar 2020 would be my first choice for fine and detail work. It's important to thin your paint well, this applies for any airbrush and particularly so with a fine needle airbrush and adjust your air pressure to match the paint and several other factors which I will not elaborate on, so assuming you are able to get the basics more or less right you will experience just how easy and satisfying it is to control and achieve some very impressive results with this Sotor 2020. As much as I love airbrushing, I loath the airbrush clean up afterwards. This unit is a breeze to clean; the base of the cup is easily accessible and close to the nozzle assembly so the amount of material that would need to be removed is minimal. And lastly the feel of this unit in your hand feels natural making it very comfortable to use for extended periods. It’s an airbrush that has clearly been designed for discerning airbrush artists and from the rest of us mere mortals, we thank them for helping influence the creation of such a fine product.

Get the GSI PS-289 instead
This is by far the most finicky air brush I've ever used. I've been spraying for a decent amount of time, long enough to not be a complete novice but good lord this thing is a pain. Inconsistencies spraying paint, constant back flow into the cup, needle clogging, etc. You like acrylic paints? Good luck or be prepared to HEAVILY thin them down. The only paint types that I could get a semi consistent spray from were GaiaNotes lacquer and Mr. Hobby Lacquers. Tamiya or Vallejo were way too difficult to use. Picked up a PS-289 and haven't looked back since. Mr. Hobby makes some great quality brushes and it's way less of a pain in the ass to use (also, it has a .18mm needle too so you can still do fine detail work)

Great american airbrush
I love badger airbrushes and this one is no different. Spend 20-30 minutes with a little oil, metal polish(I use flitz), 1000 grit sandpaper, and a little chapstick or beeswax on the head and you have an airbrush that will spray with the very best. Once the side panels where the trigger sits are polished, the trigger smoothness and response is fantastic. Highly recommend the ab. With just a little work, it can be made great. Parts are readily available and inexpensive. Try that with a chinese ab with little parts support or with overpriced parts on japanese ab’s. Granted, Badger should have sorted these things out before shipping but with a little effort, it’ a great ab. Highly recommend.

All that I can say is, I've got an awesome airbrush from an awesome shop at an awesome price. Delivery was very quick, despite I live on the continent. The Badger Sotar 2020-2F with the fine needle setup is one of the top notch fine detail airbrushes on the market, and it's a bargain compared to equivalent products from other brands. The main advantages are: 1) It's perfectly balanced in my hand, allowing me to work for hours without cramps in my hand. 2) Trigger operation is soft and smooth, especially with the High Roller trigger, which is a separate purchase but highly recommended. Airflow can easily be regulated by trigger pressure. The deeper you press the trigger, the more air flows. 3) Because the needle doesn't stick out as far from the nozzle as on other airbrushes there is little or no tipdry, which makes working with the Sotar a real pleasure. 4) Another advantage not to neglect: Badger offers great customer care. The company's owner is a member of many airbrushing and model building groups plus he runs two of groups himself. If you got a problem with a Badger airbrush, write to them and you'll receive help. 5) Badgers are 100% made in the USA, not in China. If you buy a Badger you help securing American jobs and you don't get involved in exploitation of cheap Asian workers.

I have two Sotar 2020 brushes, one fine one medium and I am contemplating adding at third (heavy). I have used air-brushes for many years from your cheapo to the most expensive of the Iwata range and Sotar 2020 is my workhorse, my goto. It is a very simple brush to use and most importantly maintain, quick to clean and robust. Spares are easily available (I managed to lose the so called "chuck") and not too expensive. Whilst the Sotar 2020 is no way the cheapest air-brush on the market, a very wise ol' modeller once told me, "buy the most expensive air-brush" you can afford and it is true you get what you pay for. Word of warning the "Paint Tips" are super small and easily lost, take (desperate) care when disassembling your brush so the tip doesn't end up bouncing on the floor off to oblivion. I also can't over recommend the "Spray Regulator with Protective Arms", these are a vital addition to protect your needle from accidental damage. A highly recommended mid price air-brush.
