Ya Gotta Love Louis Armstrong!
I love Hal Leonard's Jazz Play Along Series and this Armstrong collection is no different. I like the fact that the selctions are always prefaced with a performance that includes the melody. The melody establishes not only a generic statement of the original melody, but the cue points and the form. The backing trio is always tasteful, animated and very professional. Like all HL play alongs, it's like having a first rate piano/bass/drums backup group at your disposal. The quality is top notch and a performer could always use the tracks in a live performance context. Since the original Armstrong cuts were often recorded long, long ago, it should be noted that these tracks feature a contemporary sounding piano/bass/drums trio. Nicely done. I'd buy this again.

Top notch!
Great book. I can use it myself and with my students. Incomparable! I suggest this to any trumpet player and state that it should be a "bible" of good jazz study for the instrument. Thanks!

Incomplete
I thought this would be a transcription of a complete recording of each song. All you get is a one page "hint" of the main melody and then you are left to fill in the rest. I could have done that by just trying to listen to and play along with one of the original recordings. I would have perferred a complete transcription with an indication of which recorded version was transcribed as Armstrong sometimes did several takes of the same song over many years. It is still useful, but not as much as I hoped.

Good
Enjoyed this one, all charts represent equal value. Not to difficult for most players to enjoy. A good buy! A+
