"Midway" is a winner!
I wanted this to be a good movie, but it was great! The bluray disc I received produced a terrific picture and awesome Atmos sound. The one review I read pitched it as okay with too much cgi. Well, that reviewer didn't know his history. A WWII movie can never provide a cover to cover story of the great war and not even a part of that war. What Midway does is to tell a number of little stories and it does that very well against a backdrop of the attack on Pearl Harbor, action at Midway, all the while setting the stage for prelude to war, the strategic decisions, and how the Navy strikes back at Coral Sea and Midway. The casting is great, the story is very good, and the action, despite loads of cgi, is very acceptably good at showing how the war was fought and battles were won and lost, keeping to the confines of a short time period. Midway is great at depicting courage, dedication, patriotism, conflicts, and relationships. And Midway keeps it all balanced and interesting while avoiding excesses. I have to say it avoids needless blood letting and violence. But it does depict a large scale air, sea, and land war in great detail. Certainly, in a good action movie there are some points of accuracy sacrificed for keeping the story moving or dramatic. Keeping this spoiler free, I can say that the story was so good I forgave every shortcoming. I felt that Midway avoided overdoing the expected while surprising me with new and imaginative story angles. I was not there nor can I speak for any Navy or veterans, but this was a great show. We didn't have the best weapons, bit we had some great fighters who came together to carry the day. Expecting this might come off as a remake, I submit that the direction and editing made for a fresh approach that reeled me in. In just the first 15 minutes I knew it was a winner. Really, I give 4-1/2 out of five stars. The package came on time and was well wrapped. Excellent image and audio quality. High quality Dolby Atmos surround sound. The production quality is quite high. Cast and crew put their backs into this. You will easily imagine what it might have been like. I am not a good reviewer, but I like great movies. This one came with an okay review and it turned quickly into a winner!

Fun WW2 Movie
Fun movie that shows enough of the Pearl Harbor events to give the viewer context before diving into the events of midway. The 4k quality looks great and the battles are fun to watch. I do not know much of the historical context, but, I recommend it as a war movie. The copy that I received is different than advertised. It seems to be a Walmart version that has the 4k, Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital Code. While it is not exactly what I expected, I will not complain about more content. The only issue is that it is not the same size as my other 4k movies now. But, that is minor.

OUTSTANDING FILM!!!!
As an accredited historian, specific to US History, I found this to be one of the most accurate depictions of America's entry into and the early weeks of America's effort in World War II, specific to the Pacific theater. I was impressed right from the beginning when they showed the actual involvement of the USS Enterprise (something I've not seen in any film concerning Pearl Harbor or any film related to the battle of Midway). It's little known and rarely mentioned, that the Enterprise was returning to Pearl Harbor on December 7th (1941), when the Japanese attacked. Several aircraft, from the Enterprise, were on the way to Pearl and some actually arrived as the battle was ending and at least six were shot down by nervous American anti-aircraft fire. Once the Enterprise learned of the attack, they DID attempt to locate the Japanese fleet, but as shown in this film, the Enterprise did take a 50/50 chance on the Japanese fleet's location, as the Enterprise did sail south/southwest, but the Japanese fleet was northwest of Hawaii, as shown in this film, several hundred miles north of where the Enterprise aircraft were searching. This film's CGI is excellent and does, as best as I've seen, show the intensity of aerial combat, as it was during the Battle at Midway, and it also was entirely accurate in showing the sinking of the last of four Japanese carriers by the Japanese themselves (it was so heavily damaged by American naval aircraft, it probably would have eventually sunk on its own, but the Japanese were concerned that the American Navy would salvage it). If you want to see an accurate presentation of the early days of World War II in the Pacific, I highly recommend this film.
