Sil-Pin French Rolling Pin, Red

Purchased for a Mother's day gift. As mentioned in another review, it cracked in the middle when rolling out the dough. While the silicone may be quality, the light weight metal it's wrapped around clearly isn't. Should have purchased solid wood. Buyer beware. Definitely returning this item through Amazon's return feature.

This pin has awesome non-stick properties, but don't expect to use it as a multi-purpose pin. We opted for the French Style thinking it would offer versatility - from pastry to pizza to tortillas, etc. During the first use - pizza dough - there came a loud snap as the pin cracked in the middle. The silicone sleeve did not tear, but there was a distinct bulge. Granted, there was a great deal of pressure applied to each end, however, it never occured to me that the core of this pin would be made of something so delicate. Disappointed, but very impressed with the non-stick properties of the silicone, we ordered the Sil-pin Baker's Pin - sans handles - and are quite pleased with it. Bottom Line: If you plan to roll only pastry, this pin will work . If you want a pin that can do it all, opt for the Sil-pin Baker's Pin.

I bought this rolling pin for my beloved husband who has become a whiz at making pie crusts and pies. This rolling pin gives one a better feel for the dough and it's shape helps keep the thickness consistent. It is not as non-stick as I had hoped, but better than the wooden rolling pin we were using.

Wheee! I love this thing! It's shape, slightly larger in the middle gives subtle control that can't be achieved with a flat rolling pin. If one section of dough needs spreading further out in order to get a truly round circle (pie crust, pizza), you can move that portion without affecting the remaining dough. I had no idea it would work this well. Works well on oily pie crust, too, though there is some sticking--though less than with other pins I've tried, including marble.

I ordered this rolling pin to make pie crust and other pastries and pastas with. The first one I received, unfortunately had some damage but Amazon was very quick to ship me another at no cost and the new one is fantastic. I just used it to make cinnamon rolls and it made the process much easier and since it's so simple to clean I feel like this is a great deal.

This rolling pin is a huge improvement from the regular rolling pins with the handles for rolling. When rolling out dough for a large pie, it's frustrating when the dough is wider than the rolling pin, but that's never a problem with this rolling pin. I feel like I have more control and it's easier to roll circles that are even thickness throughout.

I probably should have kept the clear plastic packaging because there really isn't a way to keep the rolling pin clean without it. The silicon coating is very high quality, and the times I've used it (to roll our pastry dough) it worked very well.
