Excellent stone for coarse work
This stone is very flat and uniform, and it cuts at a good rate for heavy work. The generous length makes for efficient work when dealing with things like plane blades. The magnetic stand is excellent, holding the stone firmly. For heavy reprofiling, setting bevels, etc., this is a superior choice, allowing you to get a lot done in a short amount of time.

Not sturdy
Does not stand up to heavy use. The diamonds seem to vanish if you press hard.

A substantial, Fast Cutting, Stone with a Great Stand.
The Extra Coarse side of this stone cuts very quickly and is great for changing the bevel of an edge, removing nicks or any other task requiring the quick removal of metal from a blade. The coarse side does a good job of starting to remove the roughness left by the extra coarse side and also is a good place to start when sharpening a neglected edge. This isn't a finishing stone by any reasonable measure but it can be a good place to start. The twelve inch length with a three inch width gives a good amount of surface area to work with for longer knives. The stand is stable, holds the stone firmly with a full length magnet, and provides plenty of clearance for your knuckles. The continuous diamond surface avoids the problem of a knife point getting caught. I use this stone in conjunction with the Fine/Extra Fine stone with the same stand and dimensions and finish on the 8 inch extra extra fine stone. You can use this stand for the extra extra fine stone which is sold without a stand.

Works ok
I have the 12x3 course extra course probably 2 years now. Works ok but the extra course has began to bubble kinda like chrome does when rust develops under it making the extra course complete unusable. I'm always diligent about thoroughly cleaning and drying my plates after every single use so idk.
