Good starter kit for dye crafts
I've just got back into tiedye and this was a good mix of colours (and half the price of a leading competitor). Enough to start playing with some simple tees and Calico bags. There was enough soda ash for 4 gallons of soak and as it is a stable solution it lasted well, wringing out soaked items I did 20 bags and about 10 child sized tees plus a couple of adult tops and two tablecloth sized "tapestry" dyes before having to buy more sodium carbonate. All the dyes work fairly well at 1tsp (5ml/gr) per 100ml water, although jet black is a sooty grey- best to use this to tone own other colours. That said, and thoroughly hooked back into dyeing, I'm now transitioning into Dharma dyes as they are cheaper and there is more specific advice on them in the dyeing community. But as a starter set, this is definitely good value and I'd recommend it for tie-dye, batik or immersion dyeing on natural fabrics. The only additive I'd suggest is urea, as it helps stop the dye from drying too fast so it has longer to bind, and gives brighter results (but look for chemical suppliers on here for the cheaper prices, not craft outlets)
