I am reviewing this almost five years after I bought it, when it broke. It worked great for it's nearly five years with me, but today the turning handle, which is made of plastic, broke and can no longer turn the blades. I wonder if they simply lined the inside part of the plastic handle with metal where it attaches to the turning mechanism, if this would prevent breakage and have it last longer. I guess five years might be a good lifetime for a can opener, but I wonder if it could last longer with some minor changes.

Best can opener I've ever purchased. Seems like can openers are always a risk to buy when you are not familiar with the product prior to buying. My last one was trash right from the first day of use. This Kitchen Aid model had some questionable negative reviews as well as many more positive ones. So I took a chance banking on the positive reviews and so glad I did. This is a great can opener, easy to use and just glides along the top or any can!! Money well invested!!

Works just great!! I am so pleased with how well this opens cans. It's the best I've had as many just don't work well. It is substantially made so will hold up very well without breaking easily. Great purchase!

We bought two of these, one for our 87 year old Nana and one for ourselves about two months ago. Our Nana mainly uses her can opener to open cat food cans daily. We use ours mainly for canned goods, like vegetables, etc... We opted for the hand held can opener instead of worrying about electric / power or a battery powered can opener. We live in Florida and can often lose power during Hurricane season so we needed something that works in any scenario. While electric or battery life is convenient, we needed something with either an amazing battery life or no reliance on power in case we lose power for weeks at a time like the last major hurricane we had.This is one of the easiest hand held can openers I've ever used. The blades are still sharp after months of daily use with no rust. The can opener opens cans quickly with barely a peep of sound! Our 87 year old Nana needed a can opener that was easy to twist and opened cans with speed as her hand dexterity isn't what it used to be. This can opener fits the bill!The speed it opens cans in still shocking! With minimal effort, the can opener attaches to the cans with it's magnet strength and a quick couple of turns and viola! Your can is open and ready to heat and eat! The only downside and maybe this is me being cheap, is the price! I know you get what you pay for, but again the price was the only downside in my opinion. The can opener is easy to clean, works well, isn't hard to open and close and cuts like butter into various canned foods including pet food cans. Try it next time you need to replace your old can opener!
