More than you expect when comparing the competition.
I was looking for an alternative to the V Moda boom mic which would be compatible with the proprietary connection of the Audio Technica ATHM40X headphones to use as a gaming headset. First impreasions: - The packaging is very clean, no noticeable logos or company information other than a compatibility sticker, in line with what you might expect. Upon opening the box I was pleasently surprised to see the mic securely fixed into a plastic tray and all jack connections protected by individual plastic sleeves. The cables are braided and jack housings are of a thick semi hard rubber construction and are reassuringly solid. Connections are gold plated and the base of each jack has a slightly thicker flange leading to the jack housing, a nice touch. The inline mute/volume works as expected and if I had 1 complaint for my £19.99 it would be that the housing for the mute/volume feels a bit flimsy and certainly not consistent with the higher than expected quality of the rest of the product. The boom of the mic is roughly 3 inches long and is perhaps not as pliable as I expected, although it does stay in place. The capsule housing looks good, with a mat grey finish and (what looks and feels to be) a metal grill cap. Sound quality is obviously subjective, but my initial impressions are very positive. With the mic placed about an inch from my mouth I heard no noticeable clipping or distortion and the mic has a very nice warm tone, not nasal or thin at all and captures bass, mid and treble frequencies equally with pop shield on and off. My only real very minor complaint as far as the mic goes is external sound pick up, but assume this is down to the mic being uni directional and wasn't as bad as it could be. Once I've used it for a few weeks I'll come back and update on durability and more thoughts on the mic itself.

Great attachment for headphones for GAMING
Amazing mic, easy set up, but check that it's the right size for your headphones! I had to return the first one, but this was easily done. The sound isn't the best, compared to if you used your headphone's normal wire, but it's still a great attachment if you want a mic when gaming.

Got this for Beyerdynamic DT 240 Pro's
There's very clear reviews above but hopefully this covers some additional information. There are 5 options when buying which is unnecessary. 2 of these are for 3.5mm connections and 3 are for 2.5mm connections. The list of headphones are not the be all and end all, please check your connection to the ear piece. To be honest, there should just be two options as this must be confusing for some people. The 2.5mm jack appears to have a longer connection is longer than the 3.5mm. The 2.5mm neck measures 19mm from the collar of the gold connection to the top of the joint for the mic arm. The neck is narrow with a little locking notch so it should fit the snuggest of slots. I went for a 2.5mm connection for Beyer Dynamic DT 240 Pro headphones... This combination is absolutely banging for under 100 ding, my mates say the mic is clear with no plosions. The other end is a 3.5mm TRRS connection. This connection will work in a 3.5mm mic/headphone jack port. (found on the front / top panel of some cases). A Y-splitter for the option of seperate mic and headphone jacks is also included. The cable between these is short, if you're intending this for use with a gaming DAC or desktop amp and the ports are more than 3cm apart, i'd recommend buying another Y-splitter. Otherwise it's totally perfect for the rear panel of your computer.

Background Noise
My setup consists of a iFi Zen USB DAC, connecting to my Audio Technica M50X, which normally provides a crystal clear sound, without background noise but sadly when using this microphone I have a permanent high pitch noise, which is caused by the microphone input, disconnecting this microphone removes the noise. The build quality of the cable is fine, but the control box rattles.

The cable is rubbish, it makes loops all the time and you can not do anything about it
the mic is ok but the quality of the product is poor for this price (the cable especially)

Long term Review = excellent mic
This is a great mic, simple but works excellently. Solidly made and reliable. NB - I use this with audio technica M50s and I needed to also buy a USB plug in adapter for the cable - I wasn't able to use the mic by plugging in the regular audio jack.

Does it says on the tin
I love my Audio-Technica ATH-M50x. It is studio headphone thus lacks mics. There are bluetooth versions but wired is always better than wireless. HansnBy Boom Microphone fills the void and works like a charm. Felt the boom to be quite flimsy but it still holds is place. The quality of the mic is average and some bluetooth mics perform better but overall convenience and usability is top notch.

Works well, but the cable is noisy
I got this for the Audio Technica ATH M50X, and I'm happy with it. The cable has a coarse texture that creates some physical noise (microphonics). This has improved with use as it wears a bit smoother, but is still noticeable. Otherwise this works well, and the microphone produces very clear sound. The sponge does come off quite easily, but I tied a little thread around it and that solved the issue. The microphone can be bent back out of the way when you're not using it.
